FORMER SIA stewardess Julita Aishah Abdul Latif has married the prince
of her dreams in Pahang, which marked the event with a week of
festivities, steeped in royal tradition.
The 31-year old bride from Singapore's Yishun and her groom are the talk
of Pahang as the timber-rich state prepares for her wedding reception at
the royal town this evening.
The usually quiet east coast town is abuzz with last minute
preparations.
An arch in the royal colours of gold and decorative lights was being put
into place yesterday at a junction near the palace, adding to other
arches and decorations all over town.
No less than 29 committees have been formed for the official ceremonies
- 11 in all - that began last Wednesday and which will end tomorrow.
Miss Julita's husband is the Tengku Muda of Pahang, Tengku Abdul Rahman
Sultan Ahmad Shah, the second in line to the throne.
She met the 42-year-old bachelor while serving as an SIA stewardess nine
years ago.
They became friends but love only blossomed about two years ago.
Said Miss Julita's father, Mr Abdul Latif Amin, who is in Pekan: 'When
he proposed, the family members were surprised. But I felt very touched
and happy.'
The happy couple exchanged marriage vows in Pahang's state mosque in
Kuantan, the capital, on Thursday evening. They then exchanged wedding
rings.
Last night, the couple went through the ceremony of istiadat berhinai -
a traditional Malay ceremony where the palms and fingers of newly-weds
are painted orange with a dye made from henna leaves.
> sounds like a hindu wedding!
This evening's reception will be the main public event as VIPs such as
the Sultan of Brunei and the Malaysian King are slated to attend.
While not everyone is invited to the reception, the ceremonies in the
Istana Abu Bakar will be televised on big screens at open fields in both
Pekan and Kuantan.
'I may not be invited, but I will watch the event at the field nearby,'
said Pekan shopkeeper Hashim Abu Bakar.
Malaysians can tune in to the reception on the TV channel, NTV7.

Sir,
