Hello, I'm a Texan who loves Asian music. (I run a asian culture
weblog http://www.imaginaryplanet.net/weblogs/asiafirst/).

Actually, I have loved several Malaysian singers, including this
remarkable song by Fazidah Joned called "Selamat Hari Raya".

What a lovely song! I cannot stop listening to it (the mp3) and I have
been able to find no mention of this singer on any website except
http://www.liriklagu.com/liriklagu_ei/FazidahJoned.html

Perhaps there are Malaysian sites with information. I don't know.

Can anyone give me information about this singer/song? When was it
sung?
Is she the original singer? How does it translate (if only the title)?
Is it famous?

I would be most grateful for any assistance.

The site you referred to is a Malaysian site.

No idea - can't find any info on the Web either, other than the lyrics.

> Is she the original singer?

Yes, I believe she is/was.

> How does it translate (if only the title)?

Translation of title : "Happy Hari Raya" ("Hari Raya" is the Malay name for
the celebration at the end of Ramadhan and is sometimes referred to by its
full name of "Hari Raya Aidilfitri"...elsewhere in the Muslim world, it's
called Eid-ilfitr.)

The actual song lyrics are about seeking forgiveness and coming together for
such a happy celebration with your relatives etc.

> Is it famous?

Very famous. During the Hari Raya/Ramadhan period, you'll hear it over and
over again being played in shopping malls, supermarkets, department stores,
on TV programmes/radio etc.
