PETALING JAYA - An aircraft-cabin cleaner was charged here yesterday
with the murder last month of IT analyst Canny Ong Lay Kian.
Ahmad Najib Aris, 27, of Taman Pantai Dalam, was also charged in the
Sessions Court with having raped Mrs Ong, 28, a Malaysian-born US resident.
Mrs Ong was abducted, raped and strangled to death while she was on a
trip home to visit her sick father.
Her body was also burnt by her abductor.
She was last seen at about 10.30pm on June 13 when she went down to the
basement car park of the Bangsar Shopping Centre after having dinner
with her mother and friends on the eve of her scheduled return to America.
Her charred remains were found at Jalan Klang Lama on June 17.
Ahmad Najib is alleged to have committed the offences at Jalan Klang
Lama on June 14. No plea was recorded in the murder case but the accused
pleaded not guilty to the rape charge.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Salehuddin Saidin successfully applied for the
murder case to be transferred to the Shah Alam High Court.
Ahmad Najib was represented by defence counsel Mohamed Nadjim Ibrahim
and Rosal Azimin Ahman.
Judge Normala Salim fixed mention for the rape case for Sept 8.
