What is the real objectives of Vision school?
Is the objective, to make BN unpopular and
present a large block of votes to PAS and BA?
The leadership of BN should be clear on its
primary objective.
More importantly, BN is now commiting political
suicide, in creating an issue like Vision school
that allow PAS and BA to exploit and to weaken
the Chinese support of BN. The exploitation by
PAS/BA does not end with the bye election at Lunas.
PAS will try to milk it for as long as BN allow the
issue to fester. For BN, it is like swallowing a slow
poison.
I say, shelve the Vision school issue. Move on
to positive issues that will draw back support for
BN. If this issue is dragged out, there will be
more losses in the support for BN in other states.
There is a need to cut losses quickly and a need
for proactive action from BN to turn the tide.
The change in Chinese support has given
confidence to PAS. They are getting very
ambitious. They will try to keep the Vision school
issue alive, for as long as possible, until the next
election. They are already computing the number
of seats they could capture in order to topple BN
from power. Beware the ides of March !
BN leaders should be big enough to admit that
it was a politican 'faux pas' and shelve the plan for
now. It is a necessary surgical operation to
remove the cancer.
Bad boy
It is just too close to the heart and soul of the Chinese; the majority
of whom have seen their share of the economic pie being slowly eroded
under the NEP(which is still being perpetuated) and given to cronies and
the Ali Babas.
Even if they withdraw the school concept, will the Chinese be so foolish
as to support the BN which will turn the screw once they win the next
GE?
Provided the BA modify the Islamic state idea, I believe the Chinese
should be able to discuss matters with the BA.
In the long term, I expect the Chinese will be the determining factor
which can provide Malaysia with a two barisan system.

The nation was never quite "done" since 1965. It was ISA and the
fantastic BN controlled mass media which allowed us to live in fear and
unknowing of our fellow citizens ...

No ... Lunas could not be avoided given that the Malays were the ones
split in their voting behaviour. Its crony economics with corruption
which lead BN to what it is today ... a hollow shell devoid of any
redeeming legitimacy.

Well, thats what you get with rule by the Malay elite ... or for that
matter, supposedly chinese elite ... I wonder if they are really elite?
or basically the progenies of the idealistic elite which lead us to our
independence?
So much for a dabble with pseudo-eugenics.

Before you buy.
Yeah, we know Mahathir is trying to woo back grassroots support to UMNO, but
if he thinks bad-mouthing and publicly thrasing the minority communities is
the way to do it, then he has absolutely no respect not only for the
minorities, but also for the mentality of the very group he is trying to
impress. He is perpetuating the very mindset that will be the eventual
undoing of this country.
All of this....even their loss at Lunas....could easily have been avoided.
If only Mahathir ditched his immature, insecure, midieval "don't question"
policy when it comes to major issues of grand-scale and long-term
importance. That's what lost the election: Mahathir's insistence that he
know's best and the rest of us should shut up and be greatful. Lunas
certainly showed him whose boss.
IMHO, Vision School could have worked, if only Mahathir was capable of
accepting Visions other than his own. Now, thanks to this whole mess, it'll
be a long long time before anyone dares attempt something like this ever
again.

The political reality is a little different from what you wished.
It is not a fatal mistake if BN can change course now.

This is the underlying problem faced by the Chinese.
PAS and BA would never give up the Islamic state
idea for Malaysia. NEVER!
Chinese can only act as the joker in the pack. If both parties
do not get the Chinese votes, they would not have a
2/3 majority in parliament. The law would not be changed.
PAS was hoping for BN to lose more Chinese support,
and to lose more seats in future. It will enable PAS to oust
BN at the next election. PAS is getting mighty ambitious
after Lunas.
Dr. M should get rid of the junior minister who is responsible
for mooting the idea of Vision school. A leader who could
not see beyond his nose will court political disaster the
next time around. Giving support to this idea, is giving
away power to PAS.
Chinese must remember, when elephants fight, the
grass suffer.
This is the dilemma facing Chinese.
Bad boy.
> IMHO, it may have started out as a noble idea,
It was a flawed proposal from the start. In Malaysian
politic now, the opposition is very hungry for power.
The slightest wrong move by BN will be exploited
by PAS to the full. With this in mind, the Vision school
issue was ill conceived to say the least. Using it, PAS
was able to create fear in the Chinese mind and
succeeded in taking away the Chinese support for BN.
The fault lies with the junior minister who mooted this
idea but was unable to see the ramification clearly.
BN paid a high price for his blunder. It was a costly
lesson which I hope the leaders in BN learnt.
Bad boy.
I agree wholehearted on this statement.
It's no comfort for the minority to see the majority
race fighting amongst themselves.
Gajah berperang, pelanduk mati di tengah.
The situation in Indonesia is a good reminder.
Reformasi there brought release and some measure
of democracy but it was the minority's blood
which must be shed more.

Have you ever wondered why only the CHINESE, not the others????
Because the chinese only support the strong, not the JUST.
Then they will pay.

Sabah is heaven. Natural beauties next to civilizations with no
natural or man-made disasters. But how long will it last?

For an American, I am impressed with your
knowledge of Malay and its idiom.
My salute.
Bad boy.
I believe that even some Malays now realise that the system of patronage has done
more harm than good.
Some of them will even welcome the Chinese to help them to change the system.
Sorry to use racial terms but we live in a racialist society and it makes the
exchange of ideas easier.
Some of us will need a paradigm shift to understand that the Chinese can be the
biggest asset to Malaysia to help reform the society.
Once the society is reformed, the Chinese and others who believe in a more balanced
approach to government can ensure that the government follows the wishes of the
voters.
That can all be achieved by 2020.
