Having disagreement and sometimes lively disagreement on the net and on
any topic does not mean disharmony, NOR does it mean that the comments
are racist just because a few nasty names were used in the heat of the
discussion.
In fact I find this very educational and eye opener in some cases,
where Malays and Chinese can cast away their superficial masks of tolerance
and really tell each other how they feel about each other.
I think most Malays and Chinese at least are coming into terms with
one another here in the net, where in Malaysia they are "held back".
So, Deric Chi, for once try to understand and do not lament. Harmony is an
evolving process. Find me a family of brothers and sisters who do not
"fight" with one another, and I show you a family with closet skeletons and
non communications.
well deric chi cheng hui, the net is one of the many few places
available where a malaysian can well,...vent. or in more familiar terms,
"lepas stim". i am pretty sure no one will act on the "racist" (the more
accurate word here would be "racial") comments since many of us will just read,
and some of us would be actually care (or be bored enough, like myself here)
to reply, perhaps a few of us will cuss with dissatisfaction, and then move on
with our life. so, chill out!
audi :)
ps hey deric, i've tried sending you amail but your post office keeps sending
them back. what's the deal?
That appears to be true in the case of some regular posters on scm.
On the other hand, scm is one of the very few things associated
with M'sia that is not censored by some "pihak-pihak berkuasa". Clearly
there is much discontent amongst Malaysians of all races, which can
hardly be discussed without fear of ISA/OSA/whatever-SA while one is
in M'sia. Yet it is hopeless if it is left to the government/politician
alone to try to resolve such discontent/problems. The people must learn
to solve the conflicts of opinions amongst themselves.
The word "racist" is, like "homophobic", a "guilty, no trial needed"
kind of accusation. Personally, I don't think we have many racists/racism
on scm. Many of the posters are in fact arguing *against* racism,
eg. "being chinese should *not* be taken as to mean that
the person is *inherently* a towkay", or "being a Malay elite student
should *not* be taken to mean he *inherently* deserves a government
scholarship", or "being a Malay overseas student should *not* inherently
mean he received unfair advantage.". Rather, the many surronding factors
must be considered for each individual case. [ for samples of racism, where
people advocate things like "Green People are inherently more lazy than
Purple people" etc .. tune in to alt.discrimination ]

rac.ism \'ra--.siz-*m\ \-s*st\ n 1: a belief that race is the primary
determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences
produce an inherent superiority of a particular race 2: RACIALISM -
rac.ist n
Granted, there exists a vast variety of perhaps conflicting
beliefs/opinions on what is right/wrong/appropriate. some of these
beliefs maybe correct, some may be misguided. Yet IMHO, all these
posters carry the common goal of making M'sia move forward.
whay.
Hmmmmm....
s.c.m. may not be censored by the censorship boys, but what makes you so
sure that what you say/post is not being MONITORED by Special Branch at this
moment???
