Most of the time, people seem to use the word "koob meej" but it seems
like a few people sometimes use the word "yeeb koob". Nej cov Hmoob,
can you shed a little light as to what the difference between these two
words is? Ua tsaug!

The word "koob meej" is to be famous. If we say you have "koob meej"
that mean you are a well know person, that included famous in heroic
type or in wealth.

The word "yeeb koob" is probably spell "yeej koob" instead. I have not
heard of the one you spell out. The one I give mean spiritual power or
some thing close to that. For example in a Hmong Christian, one could
say:

"thov kom Vaj Tswv lub 'yeej koob, yeej huam' pab koj thiab koj tsev
neeg."

That prays for Jesus's power to help you and your family.
Another example was when the Hmong was being hunt down by the communist
party in Laos after 1975, a Hmong would say:

"thov txog Huab Tais Ntuj, plaub tug Txoov Xob nyob pluab ceg kaum ntuj,
tswv teb tswv chaw, kom nej lub 'yeej koob, yeej huam' nrog pov puag peb
cov me nyuam Hmong dub, pab thaiv ntis nyab laj liab lub ntsis ntaj
ntsis pom. Thov txog tsoom Xov Pav Tim Xyoob kom nrog tsom kwm thiab ua
nyab laj liab siab kom nws rov sib tua nws."

That prays for the "Lord of the Sky", "lord of Lightning", "Lord of
Earth and Ground" to give their spiritual power to protect the Hmong
from the communists's guns and swords. It also pray for the "army of
Tigers" to help in protection and munipulate the communist soldiers to
kill themselves. Well, that's too much of Hmong already. Sorry for
posting too many Hmong words.

Good luck in your search for Hmong words.

Following are my understanding of "Koob Meej" & "Yeeb Koob".

"Koob Meej" means famous in such a way that everyone cherishes.
"Nto Npe" which is very similar to "Koob Meej" except that you can
"Nto Npe" in a good sense and in a bad sense as well. And "Yeeb Koob"
means gift or prize which you receives.

I hope it helps.
