One of the reasons why I almsot never comment on software is that I know next to nothing about it.
But for whatever it is worth, I will make this general observation:
It SEEMS to me that these days --- and in particular, what GOOGLE has in its various software programming --- broad, multi-faceted ALGORITHMS (software built on *intelligent* algorithms) are at the heart of most of these programs... from how Google "translates" to how it keeps track of the SPREAD OF DISEASES (the cyclical wax and wane as well as the strength of, say, the swin flu, common cold, etc.)... to how it assimilates and makes use of other digital data dealing with atmospheric, surface, and astronomical sciences....
Point is, how "good Google is" depends largly on the RAW as well as ACCURACY data fed into its powerful algorithms.
Again, I don't know software and its programming details; but I know how Google runs OUT-COMES programs I use every day, from finances, to disease modeling, to pure information flow, to astronomical and atmospheric modelings.... so I know, to very large degrees, GOOGLE operates on very powerful search-and-encoding algorithms....
Somewhat similar to Stephen Wolfram (of MATHEMATICAL)'s own "computational" WOLFRAM-ALPHA search algorithm... in which you could type something, like:
"What is the average rotational speed of the Milky Way" and it will givey ou a whole bunch of very accurate, highly relevant astronomical information....
To use Stephen Wolfram's various very powerful and accurate scientific tools, one has to subscribe and pay some fees... so, of course, I don't know the extend of his software's true power; but the guy is a true genius on the hardest hardcore subjects, so they must be really good enough for industries, research scientists, government, and other entities to make him as rich as he is.... in the data analysis, as well as computational fields, he is in....
In short, Google's LAO TRANSLATION protocol only works as good, or accurately, as it is the data "fed" to Google; and it's not really something any body could actually do (other than to make sure users keep feeding sysmatically good, accurate data in to Google)...
