The neck of General Nouphet Daoheuang was so tight he had trouble
breathing. Begging him lay a little knot, he obtained it with a
bullying added: "Still afraid of dying?" Gave him a soldier. These ten
people had been convened and then arrested at the same time as the
others around 9am. But in the office of Commander of the camp. The
arrests were carried there by a section of soldiers led by Commander
Deuan Thong, former commander of Camp 05 B, assisted by Sub-
Lieutenant
Bounthone, commander of the provincial military units. Some time
later, the prisoners were ordered to walk to Sob Ting. At about 5 kms
before Sob Ting, His Excellency Soukane Vilaysane tried to stop a car
4x4 type of escort and asked permission to go because he was too sore
feet. Then we saw five other prisoners tied to the back
of the car. These were:

3.3 The allocation of prisoners in the prison camp 01.
These prisoners were all either representatives of the higher echelons
of civil and military authority of the former Royal Lao Government, or
members of the royal family and Heads of the royal palace. Considered
by the Party as a potential threat to the foundations of the new
regime he has installed in the country, it was decided to put them all
out of harm's way. The prison camp 01 was built specially for them.
The prisoners arrived by three successive groups:

Death Camp 01.
* The third group arrived Nov. 24, 1977 to 22 hours. It consists of:
1. His Majesty the King Savang Vatthana
2. Her Majesty the Queen Khamphouy
3. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Vong Savang
The latter has grown a beard, like a hermit. They are locked in the
house No. 3 of the B prison, recently emptied
of its 11 occupants.
** In all, the number of prisoners confined in the prison camp of
death rises 01 to 41 people
IV. Hellish life of prisoners in the prison camp of death 01. In early
March 1978, Sayavong Thao, head of the province of Houaphan,
provincial secretary of the party, accompanied by Captain Sone Chai,
chief of the provincial military police, the complainant Thongsa,
Chairman of Provincial People's Court, and Mr. Bounphet, commander of
the prison camp 07, drove 10 Vietnamese experts to inspect the prison
camp 01.
Before inspecting the interior of the house No. 2 Prison A by three
experts Vietnamese Thao Ninh ordered the prisoners to sit, motionless,
his arms around his knees, his head bowed. Using flashlights, the
Vietnamese examined the place, especially the walls and ceiling. While
outside, their compatriots were all on the house of
a Vietnamese who was in front of General Insisiengmay Kane, said in
his tongue "Thoi" ("Eat, do not worry" ... ) Without doubt he had
noticed that the prisoner was being quietly chewing his rice! Soon
after, they came out again and went to the house No. 1.
The inspection of the prison A completed, the delegation went to the
prison were locked B where the king, queen and crown prince. The
active presence of Vietnamese experts demonstrates how collaboration
between the two communist parties, Laotian and Vietnamese, is narrow.
And many other findings we suggest that the most important decisions
of Vientiane are more or less inspired and guided by Hanoi! (11) 4.1
The iron discipline of the prison camp 01. From the earliest days, the
commander of the camp, Thao Ninh, reads as follows strict rules to
prisoners:
1) All prisoners here are deprived of their rights as citizens.
2) The prisoners are under the direct responsibility, total and final
command of the camp.
3) Any soldier or camp staff has the right to use its weapons against
any prisoner who discusses his orders or commits any breach of the
regulations of the camp.
4) absolute defense for prisoners to have any contact with the king,
queen and crown prince.
5) Defense to speak a foreign language or dialect of the ethnic
minorities. Only allowed the common language of the Lao Loum ("Lao of
the valley" in relation to ethnic groups who live on the heights).
6) Every prisoner must speak loudly: The whispers are prohibited.
7) When speaking to a manager or other guards or escort, a prisoner
must sit down, arms around his knees and head bowed, must say "yes,
sir" to respond and must keep a distance of 3 to 5 meters! Advocacy of
the former, to compare it to the new.
9) Defense to bring the fire in the house.
10) Everyone is responsible for his place. All repair work must be
reported in advance and authorized.
11) A manufacturing and all teaching is prohibited, except by express
order of the command of the camp.
12) On the occasion of activities away from the camp, it is forbidden
for any prisoner to return to some house in the village, cross a
venue. Before going to his needs, he must sit down and ask permission,
then do not leave more than 15 yards from the keeper.
13) There is the obligatory call of prisoners each night, 19 hours
before the check, and every morning at 5 o'clock in the morning.
4.2 The daily life of prisoners in the prison camp 01
a) Prisoners in prison A Of the 38 prisoners in prison A, 5 are
permitted to work outside namely! While all others are locked inside
dark houses No. 1 and No. 2, 24/24 and 7 / 7, except late Saturday
afternoon when they are
allowed to wash out a quarter of an hour!
From mid-May 1978, the fate of five of the seven prisoners of the
house No. 1 was still worse, because their legs are now hampered by
three devices 24/24 to torture:
- The first device hinders legs Phagna Touby Lyfoung alone.
- The second leg of a binding device Phagna Pheng Phongsavanh another
Commander Sivilay.
- The third leg of a binding device Bounpone Makthepharak General to
another of General Phasouk Sorasphak.
While the generals and Saysana Sinh Chao Atsaphanthong Pathammavong
are subject to morning chore of washing out and "even toilet". Namely
those prisoners permitted to work outside, two (Khamphan Thammakhanty
and Amkha Khanthamixay) are assigned to the communal kitchen. Their
main task is to make bad rice, eaten by worms, and prepare soup made
in the first month, only salt, leaves and wild roots. Later, they may,
from time to time, season with a few cans of Vietnamese origin.
The other three (Phoumy, Thong and Phimpha), they are assigned
primarily to cut wood for all households in the camp kitchens. Other
tasks still borne by the five prisoners - Cultivate and maintain the
small ray of rice, cassava field and a small rice paddy. (Note: the
harvest of this last point does not benefit to the prisoners!).
- Pounding rice and performing other services to staff the camp.
- Get over their shoulders once a month, bags of rice (in all about a
ton), deposited at 700 meters from the camp by 01 prisoners from the
camp 07.
28 December 1978 to June 1980, the camp authorities have killed a
buffalo to feed everyone (staff and their families included!). A
framework has suggested that it was merely to remind the prisoners a
taste for fresh meat!

Death Camp 01.
Towards the middle of April 1978, Thao Ninh, the camp commander 01,
read to the prisoners the following statement:
"Because of the ravages of drought throughout the country, the ration
of rice for each prisoner will now 4OO grams per day, and if
necessary, will be reduced again." Note: Given the poor quality of
rice distributed, roughly once cleaned and washed, there will in
reality no more than 250 grams!).
Similarly, his wife is a nurse, has announced that henceforth the few
drugs available to it will be reserved only for really serious cases.
From April 1978, a few garden vegetables and cassava improve a bit
ordinary.
b) prisoners from the prison B.
The three prisoners are subjected to total isolation. It is
prohibited
for any prisoner of addressing them.
* Crown Prince:
Every morning he goes to get the daily ration of rice for three at
the
warehouse. It has to do with either the superintendent or with Xay
Pheng's wife (the politician). This rice is very bad, rotten, eaten
by
worms in general! Ration of salt is given to him for a week. Each
day,
he cultivates a small garden beside the house No. 3, grows
vegetables,
peppers, eggplant, etc. ...
* Queen:
Its main task of cooking for the three.
* King:
It helps the garden, manufactures its own pipe, piles of stones into
a
bench. He planted three papaya papayas that give superb.
On 1 January 1978, New Year's Day International, the two cooks were
able to offer three prisoners from the prison B, through the sentinel
understanding this particular day, a very precious gift in the
circumstances: a plate rice covered with a layer of condensed milk
boiled! In return, the next day, the Crown Prince has received
permission to send them a bunch of vegetables from her garden, always
through the sentinel. Inside the boot, three-mustard salad feet are
tied together by a string of bamboo. According Thongsouk Tiao, the
younger half-brother of King, this means that all three are suffering
a lot and are in great sadness.
During the year 1979, from 11:30 to 14:30, rest for others, when the
sun is at its zenith and pat very strong, the King and Crown Prince
are driven by a soldier to go weed the rai or repair the fence of
cassava field, often in places where the slope is steeper.
In mid 1979 he was assigned to guard the Crown Prince of a buffalo.
One day, about noon, before going to eat, he tied to a tree. Behind,
unbeknownst to him, treacherously, a soldier set him free. On his
return, not seeing the animal, the prince went to make the report to
the soldier on guard. The latter reproached him so suddenly and with
anger, being unable to keep a buffalo. The prince, ripping his shirt,
showed him his chest, saying: "It's not worth shooting in the air,
pulls on me." The Queen was close, very scared, "cried the prince not
to discuss. The prince then said that would die for her deliverance.
It was better than endure such harassment and torture.
Note: It turns out that this young soldier is the very man who killed
his Excellency Touby Lyfoung a bullet in the heart, a Saturday of
April 1979! It was a very young soldier ethnic Lao Theung 15 or 16
years.
From mid-1979, the health status of three prisoners had deteriorated
considerably.
One day in early January 1980, while the prince was bedridden,
seriously ill (he died two weeks later!), The King was led by the
same
soldier to go weed the reason in ordering him well do. The king said
to Luang Prabang, he had several opportunities to work in his fields
and rice paddies. The young soldier shouted then: "Do not argue,
you've ordered to work, then work!".

We NEED to move on and leave LAOS to the Laotian people. DO I care if
LAOS fall into vietnam's control? I really don;t give a rat ass if
Laos ceases to exist on the face of the earth. If LAOS wants to truely
remain a "SOVERIEGN" country as claimed...it is NOT our decision nor

let the Lao-Hmong take care of their own problems. Afterall, mr. YONG

Phase no yog phase uas txaus tusiab tshaj:
Death Camp 01.
Camp de la mort 01
V. The tragic end of virtually all prisoners of prison camp 01.
As noted, the prisoners were constantly subjected to strong physical
and psychological pressure. They had lived or rather survive in
inhuman and degrading conditions. Soon, hunger, disease, exhaustion
and despair would have because of their resistance. Thus, from October
1977 to June 1980, at an accelerated pace, 24 prisoners died on 41 or
60% of the total. Among the survivors at that time, a number would
join them in the following months, while the rest was in a state of
physical exhaustion such as less than half of them could still walk
without help!
Listed below are the first 24 victims:
1. Bovone Tiao He died in August 1978.
Half-brother of King, former Governor of the province of Hua Khong in
northern Laos. Arrested in mid-1976 (12) and then sent in a
cave-prison Muong Liet and finally to prison camp 01 November 11,
1977. 24/24 locked in the dark prison, desperate, hungry, scrawny,
exhausted, unable to eat for two weeks before he died in August 1978.
His body is buried in paragraph VH 432-745.
2. Tiao Sisavang (aka Kay Tiao) died in September 1978.
This is the fourth child of the King (second son) and son of Tiao
Bovone. Graduated from a college of Agriculture of France, he was
responsible for agriculture Royal Pak Xeuang a few tens of kilometers
east of Luang Prabang. Arrested along with the king in the year 1976
(12) and then sent in a cave-prison Muong Liet, then the prison camp
01 November 11, 1977. Desperate to see his parents, his older brother
and uncles like him sequestered, unable to eat soon, skeletal,
exhausted, he died one morning in September 1978. Before giving up the
ghost, he just asked his neighbor to find her a little rice wine and
bring him his share of rice.
His body is buried in paragraph VH 438-745.
3. Major General Wan Rattikone He died in October 1978.

Dear Faj,
It is amazing to read what you have to share. Did you get the info
from a book? Which book?
Please release more. Although we are Hmong, we are more Lao than
Hmong. We therefore must know what has happened to our king, queen,
crown prince and others who never came back from re-education.

Those on the list are great peoples they have plenty of time,
they're smarts, have money and knew what going to happen to them,
instead of run a way like chicken they choose to faced the hardship
and die in Lao soil...They dies for our country to get into better
direction
love and respect Buddha bless all of them...
I totally agree with you....they are true heros and heroines! One
day, when the wind of change come...a memorial will be erect in their
memory.
Jim
jrianti...
if they died for a better direction, then it is worthy. but their
death this time had set no clear direction as their dreams and
wants...and that is the sadest thing about Laos--the immediate family
of the King and Queen and the many noble people were perished into no
grave!
Born2beHmong
Laos is their grave, my friend.
Jim
Born,
It's somethng to be known but certainly not a subject to discuss. They
knew their fate but refused GVP's 2 cents of ideas.
Friend Born2,
I agree with jrianti that they died for good. They have no choice but
died for honoring their prides.
The King and Queen died for their people and country. The rests died
for their loyalties to the King and Queen. They are all honorable
people.
Those leaders and people who escaped were not cowards either. They are
the last hope and dream of the King and Queen. But sadly, their hope
and dream did not come true.
Anyway, all we can do now is to forget and forgive. We have to live
with the presents, not the past.
HL
I believe many of you's words, however that does not add up. why it
is not add up, because these people were thinking of the Peace Accord
Treaty. No one in this would would want his/her life to be shorten if
known.
it is very nice to say, but that can never apply us human being. one
dies because of there is no other alternative and choice.
Thanks, and it is very sad to hear many of you were saying as you are
said--because it was not an honorable and pride in dying to save the
country or the people...but it was dying as a " total waste"...
:(
