Strange, they gave me 60 days stay when I got my visa on arrival at
the bridge last week but every web-site still said 30 days. I was
only there for the weekend for my cousin's wedding but I paid $35 and
got 60 days.

Read the above links, as for firearms, don't think you can bring that
with you. Best things to do is sell them.
Contact the Lao Embassy in Washington DC, they should be able to help
you with your specific needs.
Brother LP,
as honest man as you are,you don't need to bring
any weapons and we will provide you a personal
body guard when you reach the land of starbucks
coffee,we will give you a warm welcome .
Bon voyage !
The link you referred to appears to be the most up-to-date one for
expatriates to reside in Lpdr.
Btw, Laophuan has many connections in Lpdr and should not be so naive
for that...5555555, just kid ຕູ້ພວນຊື່ໆເດີ!
Thank you Joe for sharing info!
-------
Just mentioning the visa that I got because I thought I would get 30
days instead I got 60, but I am not complaining. So if I can get 60
days each time, there's no sense to try to obtain the business visa
because I am sure, I would probably visit Nongkhai and/or Udorn
frequently.
Lao Gov should consider a 'retiree visa' category for those that want
to reside in Lao.
Forgot to mention, the retirement and social security checks should be
direct deposited to your US account, however, you can choose to have
your social security check mailed to the US Consulate at the US
Embassy in Lao. If it was me, I would go the direct deposit route
because there are several draw back in receiving check in Lao such as,
you have to go to the Embassy once a month to pick-up your check and
have to deal with depositing the check with the Lao Banks, etc...
It costs me $45 for each EFT (electronic fund transfer) transaction
from my US bank account to my Thai bank account (regardless how much
you transfer, do try to keep it under $10,000 for each transaction
though because the bank is required to notify the IRS for any amount
over $10,000) so I think it should cost about the same or less
depending on your US Bank.
In regard to getting cash out of the bank in Lpdr, it's cheaper to
sell(cash) the check at ທະນາຄານການຄ້າລາວ. The bank charges only 0.25%
fee from the total amount plus $5.00 with a 45- day waiting period
though. It's good for anyone who can wait that long...

i'm not experienced, but have some thoughts for you, who will spend
the last good portion of your life time in laos.
1st, no matter what you do or think how much you love your motherland,
don't forget the fact that laos is still the communist country and
ruled by one communist party.
so far, you sound like you only have "big heart" for laos, but not
'big string' (like big guys inside the park-ppl) to support you, so if
you want to have a real peaceful/fun life time in laos, you better be
real careful about your activities, i.e. if you like to go to the
temple, don't make them announce your name with big sum of donation
all the time, or if you like to go to the bars, don't order lots of
saonoy to seat on your lap all the time.... keep it low key in order
to have hi-fun in the long run....
you shouldn't mention about taking any gun with you to the lpdr,
except your skin gun, for this could be evaluated as the sign of NOT
“ຕາຍໃຈ” to the pak-and-lat by the commu authority.
for your very personal belonging like your plastic girlfriend, it
would be very interesting to know how the commu deal with such new
trend? don't forget to report us after you pass the border....
hahahhhhh
like joe said, direct deposit is the best way. last time when i was in
laos and thailand i used my debit card to draw money with the fee of
$5 per transaction. it's very convinient (don't need to carry lots of
cash with you or deal with travelling check). i also used my credit
card a few times.

Here is my suggestion about your favorite plastic girl: deflate and
chop it in pieces, so Lao kgb don't detect your wrong doing. Such
activity could slow down Lao tourism economy. While dissecting it, be
EXTREME CAREFUL on the G-SPOT, in case of emergency NEED.
Hahaha...Once in Laos, you can mend it back at any tire shop for
cheaper repair, make sure they know basic anatomy, otherwise, you
should see a professional surgeon.
Good Luck,
Yor fliend ເຊີນຍີ້ມ,
This video was taken at the ເພື່ອນເບຽ, the owner of the establishment
is a good friend of mine, it's located on the ring road from the
friendship bridge to That Luang. He owns this beer bar and another
one called ຊິນຈັງ, on the same road, great place to hang out.
Back to topic of discussion, it does not matter where you live, any
place one goes...one must live by the rule of the land, therefore,
just remember the Lao saying, ຢູ່ແບບບໍ່ຜິດຜີ ຜິດຄົນ and you should be
okay and also remember, it's not illegal until you get caught...
Dear Laophuan,
I wish you the very best whatever you desire to do with your life.
Go back to Laos or stay in the U.S.
Your friend KC
Thank Joe and all friend for big help I will start with Lao Embassy in

Good luck to you brother.
Bank of America has branches in BBK. No EFT fee. SukoThai Bank(SP?)
and Bangkok Bank costs me $15 for each EFT from my US bank acct in the
US.
Do your thang as you have always been doing. LIke Frank Sinatra sang,
"I did it my...Way..."
Happy Thanksgiving.
