I am at DLI and studying Korean. I am wondering what the feeling is in
Korea after the election. Some of the teachers here at DLI were happy.
I am confused: Didn't Mr. Roh run on an anti-American stance or was
this just portrayed in the media.

I have served in the US Army for 13 years. I have completed 2 tours of duty
in Korea. My first time was in 1990 and second tour was in 1998. You are
right that there are some incidents where US Servicemen (Army, Air Force,
Navy, Marines) commit crimes that are unexcusable. The United States has an
agreement with every country that we have troops (Korea, Germany, etc..)
called the SOFA (Status of Forces Agreement). This SOFA gives the US the
jurisdiction to deal with it's personnel who commit crimes in these
countries. I am in no way on the side of any of the servicemen who
committed these crimes.

You say that South Korea is tired of the "racist Colonial US Soldiers." As
yourself where would the country of South Korea be right now if it was not
for the United States! I have witnessed and experienced personnaly being
called "Yankee" by South Koreans. I know that the majority of the country
is proud to have the US military in their country protecting their way of
life as they know it. I believe it's the younger generation of South Koreas
who are causing the problems and holding the demonstrations against the US.
Yet, they forget to realize that they grew up and are able to live their
lives as they know it under the blanket of freedom that the US has provided
to them. They take the US for granted.

If South Korea wants the United States military to leave it's country, then
I certainly support that. Why should we continue to be slapped in the face
by providing help to a country who does not appreciate it. South Korea
stands no chance against North Korea. North Korea would dominate South
Korea and continue it's communist oppression rule. South Koreans would have
their world as they know it changed right before their eyes.

So if you really want the US out of South Korea, then I commend you for that
statement. I do not commend you for your reasons because I tend to take it
personally because of the amount of time I have served in South Korea.

my husband happens to be in Korea right now, spending time away from his
family and his brand new baby boy, whom he has not seen to protect s. Korea
from the north. Gee...sounds like a racist to me. That's bull...those boys
spend time away from family, friends, and its all for those Koreans you
speak so highly of. Those of which do not appreciate at all the things
those soldiers have given up for them. My question is ....have you be raped
or murdered, have you seen it done, if not then read the papers, our boys
have been attacked too, just simply walking to their barracks. What part of
the U.S. soil, that my husband and these other racists are fighting for, do
you lay your head at night? Now, do you even deserve to call yourself an
American? I don't think so.

He's just a troll trying to get a people to respond.
Your Husband is doing what he gave his word to do, and everyone should be
proud of what he is doing. After all he is doing what some can't or won't do
because they are afraid to come out, and do what is right for their Country.
