In a large flameproof casserole,
melt the fat over a high flame.
Brown the kid in the melted fat,
and then remove and reduce the flame.
Add the onion, carrot and turnip,
cover and let simmer for an hour.
Place the kid on vegetables and pour on the cider.
Bring to a boil, add the bouquet garni,
cover and transfer to a medium oven for 2 hours.
Remove the kid from the casserole
and set aside to keep warm.
Strain the liquids in the casserole,
pressing down on the vegetables
to squeeze out the liquids.
Place the kid on a warmed serving platter,
pour over some of the juices
and sprinkle with the parsley.
Serve the remaining juices separately.
Serves lots of Pallies.

passage is directly related to the preceding one, is apparent from

the one that is accepted as the rule. The reason given, "the
sanctification of the Name," means that a heathen must not be goaded
into cursing against God.
Neither does Mr. Hoffman see fit to mention the very narrow
circumstances in which R. Ishmael sees subterfuge as warranted.
Nevertheless, as R. Ishmael's opinion is not accepted, R. Ishmael
himself would be required to follow R. Akiba's rule. (The strict
adherence of the talmudic rabbis to majority rule is even affirmed by
another of Mr. Hoffman's "citations" in this same article -- the
story
of R. Akiba washing his hands before a meal when he had hardly enough
water to drink -- but I will not be getting around to discussing that
one in this post.)
This particular talmudic discussion continues a few lines down:
Is then the robbery of a heathen permissible? Has it not been taught
that R. Simeon stated that the following matter was expounded by R.
Akiba when he arrived from Zifirin: 'Whence can we learn that the
robbery of a heathen is forbidden? From the significant words: _After
that he is sold he may be redeemed again,_ which implies that he
could
not withdraw and leave him [without paying the redemption money].
That is, an Israelite may not be freed from servitude to a Gentile
without paying compensation to the Gentile.
The debate ends with an affirmation of R. Akiba's view. R. Bibi b.
Giddal, R. Simeon the pious, and R. Huna agree, "The robbery of a
heathen is prohibited..." A footnote to this last passage delivers
the
knockput punch:
...v. also Tosef. B.K. X,8 where it is stated that it is more
criminal
to rob a Canaanite than to rob an Israelite...
(The abbreviation, Tosef., stands for _Tosefta_, a commentary on the
Talmud, and B.K. stands for Baba Kamma.)
In spite of which, Mr. Hoffman has the audacity, the unmitigated

and the _chutzpah_ to make up subtitles for his "citations" such as,

What I have to say is, the Talmud is written down in Hebrew and
Aramaic, not in English. The Bible was written in Hebrew too, not in
English. There are many,many varying English translations of the
Hebrew bible, but there is only ONE Hebrew bible. And I can read and
understand it in its original language so I don't need any varying
translations.
Now the Talmud is infinitely more complex than the Bible, even though
the Talmud is based on the OT Bible and the Oral Law that was passed
down to Moses by verbal and not in written form. .

386 Consultant and have a blast with the comments. The instructor
graded very strict in that he didn't ask that we comment he demanded
it. Comments really help both the person writing the program and in
your case the person that is trying to understand what someone else
has done. The thing is some programmers intentionally leave out the
comments so they will always be the one chosen to further the project
because they are the only ones that know what they are doing so
somebody else can’t get their job.

Yeah, well, even with comments, and even if you are quite conversant
in the language, you can still be stymied with the logic of what it's
supposed to do. But I had learned some programming with Fortran and PL/
1 back in the stone age, but when C++ came out, I was history. It's
strictly by programmers for programmers, and not very friendly to
those trying to make heads or tails of it.

When we lowly tech writers were not up to the job of deciphering the
mumbo jumbo, they hired a slew of C++ programmers to try to reverse
engineer it. They didn't do much of a better job, but sure as hell got
more money.
