I have never heard it suggested that he is, and the Jewish Chronicle would
certainly referred to it if he was.
Ben Elton who co-wrote Black Adder has a Jewish father, I believe. Stephen
Fry who was in Black Adder as the blimpish colonel is half-Jewish.
Manuel in Faulty Towers (Andrew Sachs) is Jewish.

While I do not know, I have often wondered this myself, as they make
pointed comedic references (some of which weren't even insulting!!!) to
Judaism in his "Blackadder" series.
(My favorite is when he's in bed with some chippie & his servant tells
him (at a horribly early hour) that there's a priest at the door, wanting
money, he immediately growls, "Tell him I'm Jewish!" It was hysterical.)

One that I liked was in a sketch where he plays the Devil welcoming the
damned to Hell. As he comes to the Christians, he blandly says "Sorry,
Christians, the Jews were right." That was when I started to think he
might be Jewish.

There was also a remark in another Blackadder about how he was "so
Jewish-looking," so, when I put it together with the other ones, I couldn't help
but wonder myself.

No, Rowan Atkinson is not. He is not the writer of Blackadder. One of the
writers is Ben Elton whose father is Jewish. Incidentally Stephen Fry, who
plays the General with the massive walrus moustache, is also half-Jewish.
On this basis you might say that the Monty Python team were Jewish. I
recall in one of the early series one of the team was shown a paper called
"The Non-Jewish Chronicle". I was at school at the time and it was the
first time that gentle fun was pointed at something Jewish but in an
affectionate way.

Quite correct. Atkinson was co-writer on the first series, but not on
the later series.

Well, I stand corrected but on the main point as I emailed someone else the
London Jewish Chronicle would have been very quick to claim Mr Atkinson if
he had any Jewish connection. This they have done with both Ben Elton and
Stephen Fry.

Yes. I'm pretty sure Stephen Fry is halachically Jewish and proud of it,
although he's not a religious believer. Doubtless this is why he used
themes related to the holocaust and Naziism in two of his novels. I would
guess that the assimilated and intermarried Jewish family in "The
Hippopotamus" is based partly on his family experience.
You see, we _are_ everywhere.

and Elton are Jewish. I said had a Jewish *connection*.
