international EGyptian
was/is Omar Sharif, who played many good parts, including opposite

Streisand in "Funny Girl," and of course in "Lawrence of Arabia" and
many other
good parts. And I used to watch Egyptian movies while living in Israel
(for a long
time there was little else to watch on Saturdays there) and some
weren't bad at all.
Not all that many good Israeli movies, to be perfectly honest. Clearly,
Jews and other
minorities that live in large, rich countries like the US can avail
themselves of
much more opportunities than you would find in a small, poor country
anywhere.
As more Muslims live in the West, certainly more do and are gaining the
education
and experience to hone and contribute their potential talents to the
greater society.
But as long as any people are confined to a very narrow world view, and
don't
or can't interact with the world at large, naturally whatever intrinsic
talents they may
have cannot be exploited or exhibited. To say that Arabs are inherently
inferior
is truly racist. But if they live in a crazy, antiquated, restricted
social order, there's
not much they can do to better either themselves or the greater society.

On one occasion I took a local bus back to Cairo which was packed

There is a Lebanese-descent actor with the same last name who plays
"Monk" in a detective series of the same name on US cable TV . I don't
know that "Shalhoub" is a Jewish name., as
I hadn't heard it in ISrael, even amongst Mizrachi Jews from the Arab
countries, but
I suppose it may be possible.

Maybe it was her real nature, who knows, but many other actors play
themselves and do a good job in their role. She was very good as Lolita's
