Pupa are an intermediate stage between larvae and mature insects.
Typicall, the pupum is surrounded, either individually or in
small or large groups, by some sort of cocoon.
Er... pupa, pupae...(or pupas in English)

But what kind of hats do they wear?

Silk. The larvae spin silk threads that are then woven into
cocoons worn by the pupae.
This was a consequence of the depletion of beaver pelts
by the voyageurs and other 17th & 18th Century fur
traders in the New World.

Silk is a wonderful fiber. The satin Shabbos and Yom Tov coats worn by
Chasidim known as bekishes used to be made from silk. I think that few , if
any, still are today because of how much more inexpensive and durable
polyster is. The problem, of course, is that polyester doesn't breathe and I
can't understand how people tolerate wearing polyester bekishes in hot
weather or while dancing such as on Simchas Torah, at weddings, etc.
On a different note, silk undergarments have been popular for quite some
time now as being a comfortable lightweight, breathable, wicking base-layer.
Having said that I wonder about the propriety, from a Jewish perspective, of
men wearing such undergarments. It is stated in Shulchan Oruch that a man
is forbidden to ride an animal without a saddle, so would it be so
far-fetched to think that there are references to silk underwear as well?

Not nice? Reb Moshe, the first thing I suggest you do is look up
pupa in the dictionary. Then, try smiling a little. It won't hurt
you, and might actually do you some good. You have spent far too
much time in scj and other forums recently, arguing with David
Goldman.
And he claims to be a Lubovitcher!

Actually, I thought "pupa" was singular, "pupae" plural?
They seem to have a lot of trouble with fires (l"a).

What's that supposed to mean? L. and Satmar are the legendary enemies
(at least in Brooklyn). 1) I haven't heard of any incidents in 20+
years. 2) Just because L has an issue with S, doesn't mean that they
have an issue with other Hungarian groups, or other chassiduyos in
general, aside from their natural sense that theirs is the "beste"
chassidus.
Plenty of L's have a sense of humor.
From you I expect more. The person asked a serious question. I wrote him
private since I could provide for him the information.

As I emailed you, thanks for the response.
Oh it was humorous, not sarcastic? My bad.

My whole purpose here was to take a topic that I considered to be
ridiculous and try at least to salvage some humor out of it.
Unfortunately, some people simply have no sense of humor.
As for my reply to Moshe Schullman: I will stipulate that we
differ strongly in our views of certain subjects (though we
probably see pretty much eye-to-eye on most things). I would
certainly consider us friends of sorts. But his sense of humor
could use some work, and that's all I meant to say to him.

??!!! What is ridiculous about an inquiry about Pupa Chasidim?
