The headline is gratifyingly realistic.
---------------------------------------

ISIS holds its “caliphate” in Syria and Iraq, Yemen and Libya are
burning, Turkey is falling into despotism, Russia is on the march in
Europe and the Middle East, and China is acting as aggressively as
ever in the South China Sea. And in the White House, they observe all
of this, and think — wouldn’t it be a great time to take another crack
at the Israel-Palestine peace process? [...]

Notably absent from those who are interested in serious negotiations
right now: Israel and the Palestinians. [...] Absent too: the Sunni
Arabs. [...] And so one of the few places this is seen as somehow the
right move at the right time is the White House, which has
periodically returned to chase this dream when it’s run out of ideas
elsewhere.

Nothing like reminding everybody that the Jews are the main reason for
ME conflicts... :-(

PBS News Hour had Tom Friedman on last night and it sounded to me like
Tom Friedman believes that the White House gave up on the
Israel-Palestinian peace process quite awhile ago.

Scroll forward to 20:11 for the beginning of Tom Friedman.

20:59 is where he seems to say the White House has given up.

It wasn't Tom Friedman, but I heard someone else say that a day or two
ago, on NPR, C-Span, or Bloomberg Radio.

I think he said he had reached a "practical" pov instead of what
preceded it.

I didn't know how to look for this on the web -- I didn't think
practical was enough, and it wasn't -- so I wasn't going to post, but
since you gave something similar...

I'm playing it.

He says "Obama told Kerry, 'I don't want you messing around there
anymore'" but Kerry just arrived in Israel. Although I might like it
if he did, I don't think he came just to say he's not messing around
anymore. But maybe. We shall see.

Regardless, I don't like Tom Friedman and I don't take too seriously
anything he says.
