My wife called me a few days ago (she's in Japan now
on vacation) and told me that it was a huge hit again.
She took two cases (48 total packages, I think), complained
how heavy they were (even though she shipped them from Narita
using ABC :-) ), I think I paid almost nothing for them at
Price-Costco, something like $8/case or something insignificant
like that.
Is microwave popcorn available in Japan? Considering you can
get the stuff at a warehouse club for a quarter or less per
package, this seems like a great idea for omiyage.
Any comments?

I've seen it on rare occasions. You're right though, it is a good
omiyage. We can probably get through FBC but I haven't checked. It'd
likely be expensive.
Thanks,
Tom
About 10 years ago, I remember watching the TV commercials 'House American
Popcorn', which is a popcorn in an aluminum pan for oventop use, almost
everyday. I remember it was very expensive, well over 100 yen each. Also,
I do not think it was popular at that time.
I guess the product may be still available at the supermarket, but I
have not seen the exact microwave version until 4 years ago.
I once brought back a bag of microwave popcorn to my family in Japan
(yes, it was actually a leftover ;-) ), and they were very excited,
especially when it was being heated! Considering the price in the US, I
think this should be some of the best 'Cost-effective' omiyage idea.

I bought microwave popcorn in a liquor store chain in Sendai, called
Yamaya. They often had imported food products at reasonable prices.
There's a branch in Ikebukuro about 5 minutes from the station.

I've seen it a number of times in Sendai, but it was gaijins who had it,
and I think it was from the F.B.C.
Can get ready to cook in a temp pot ones though.
Great idea as omiyage as most people love Popcorn, and if it is fast and
simple, it is valued!!!

I don't think that you can find it in regular stores.
I have never seen it or heard of it here.
