Ciccone means ?

My passion is the etymology of surnames and names of places. I have come
across recently the name Ciccone and have had no luck in finding its
original meaning or where the word came from. Does anybody have any
idea? Thanks in advance for those who reply.

i'm not an expert on etymology. Cicca in italian means the
cigarette-end, the suffix "one" means "big" so ciccone would be
"the big stub" ;-)

As I know "ciccone" mean very fat person. In italian: quanto ne so,
"ciccone" vuol dire persona grassa e non ha niente da fare con le sigarette,
come sostiene Zorro. O mi sbaglio?

Zorro ha fatto dello spirito, Ciccone non viene dalle "sigarette, ma sbagli
anche tu: CICC*I*ONE means fat person, not CICCONE!

It is Ciccio as well.
Cicco has no widespread meaning.

Depending on the dialect, maybe. In standard Italian it does not mean
anything. 'Fat guy' is 'ciccione' but with an 'i' after the last 'c' that
changes the sound from 'chikkone' to 'chitchone' (Italian pronounciation of
vowels is kept here)

It does mean indeed that, but that's modern slang. I don't think that it can
be of use in etymology, since many names in Italian were formed well before
the Americas, and with them tobacco, were discovered.
