Hello, Everyone:

The Italian word for the sun is "sole". Is there a single Italian word
that means "little sun"? If there is not, how would you form such a
word as in the way from "Roberto" to "Robertino" or from "Cielo" to
"Cielito" (Spanish in this case). I want to find such a word in
Italian as a pet name for either a boy or a pet that means "little
sun" or "small sun".

Thank you for reading and replying!

Well you can call your pet Pocosole as in "poco sole" (little sun).
Or make up "sole" > "solino" as in "padre" -> "padrino" :-)

That would mean "not enough sunshine", unless I'm very much mistaken.

That seems a better idea. I'm not sure how usual "solino" is, but cf.

l-solino.html:

"Egretta alba si scalda al solino".

"solino" is not used, and it does not sound good, although it is
grammatically correct; the reason being that it is the same as "little
sole" in italian "piccola suola".

A better way to say "little sun" in just one word could be "soletto"...
but there is a phrase "solo soletto" that means: "really alone".

I think it's better you choose a different name.

Port. "solinho" would fit the bill nicely. Port. <nh> is pronounced like
Ital. <gn>.

The only diminutive of "sun" I know to be used in reality is
"solicello" and that means more a "weak" sun than a "small" sun.

I think there was at least a racehorse with this name (or was that a
jumper?) however, so if you like the sound you can use it for a pet or
a boy and then explain that it means a friendly, caressing sun as
opposite to a fierce, ardent one.
