MEDIA COVER-UP FOR TERRORISTS (Shulman 9958)

DO SADDAM'S SONS MATTER?

The deaths of Saddam's sons ended his dynasty. Guerrillas may lose heart and
moderate Arab leaders gain the courage to recognize Israel. Israelis "were
buoyed by Pres. George W. Bush's warning to Iran and Syria that they would be
held accountable for continued support of terrorism." (Liat Collings & Sarah
Honig, Intl. Jer. Post, 8/1, p.3.)

Bush doesn't hold the P.A. accountable for continued support of terrorism.
Jihad has become internationalized. The deaths of one country's leaders won't
stop it. Warnings by Pres. Bush are taken lightly. Having made revenues and
forces insufficient perhaps even for Liberia, the US cannot tackle Syria while
its army is tied down in Iraq and spread around the globe. Our bombs may be
smart but our leaders aren't.

What "moderate Arab leaders?" Why none named? Because they are products of
wishful thinking. The Islamic world is gearing up for jihad. The West has not
caught on.

MEDIA COVERS UP FOR TERRORISM

The media portrayed the controversial Rutgers U. hosting of a pro-Arab
conference as one of free speech for a benign, mainstream organization.
Initial reports covered up the group's pro-terrorism. That mission is frankly
stated on its website. It affirms opposition to the existence of Israel, which
it calls names. It approves of "any means necessary," i.e., terrorism. It
submitted an article to the Rutgers U. newspaper, "Israel Has No Right to
Exist," but the editors misleadingly toned it down to "Palestine Roots in Land
Proven Through History." The "Star Ledger" reported a dispute between pro-P.A.
and Jewish groups over a "Palestine Will Be Free" sign. The full banner was
more revealing, "From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Be Free." The full
message indicates a wish to take over Israel, too, just gain P.A. independence.
Why did the media conceal it?

The initial reports also ignored the group's endorsement of Arab refugee
descendents' emigration to Israel. That is tantamount demanding the end of
Jewish sovereignty. AP put it wrongly that the group merely seeks an
"independent Palestine." Only after the group incurred widespread criticism,
including by the University President and the Governor, did the newspapers
start to report the true nature of the organization.

A week later, the "Star Ledger" did report that the group refused to condemn
suicide bombings, but still not that it considers Israel illegitimate. It
reported the conclusion by the University President that the group holds
"abhorrent" views, without specifying what he found abhorrent -- its
"opposition to Israel's right to exist."

The "NY Times" stated that the group is "against racism and all forms of
oppression" but omitted its opposition to Israel's existence. It reported that
one of the group's leaders was a communist, but not her threat that Jewish
students should be afraid to be Jewish on campus (IMRA, 8/3). If the Arabs
seize power, they would oppress the Jews.

"Free speech" on campus? Pro-Israel groups get less opportunity. The biased
general student organizations rarely invite pro-Israel speakers. Netanyahu and
Daniel Pipes were mobbed and prevented from addressing the students. Pro-Arab
professors and Middle Eastern Studies don't belong and are not balanced by
factual/pro-Israel presentations.
