Coopey LVF Link under spotlight

Newcastle man Norman James Coopey is not regarded a member of the
Loyalist Volunteer Force by members of the paramilitary group.

He was given permission to move to the safety of the LVF wing after
receiving threats from other prisoners. It is understood that members of
both the UVF and UDA had strenuously objected to Coopey's presence on
their wings at the Maze.

Speaking to the Democrat from his home Pastor Kenny McClintock, the
LVF's contact with the arms decommissioning body said that Norman Coopey
was on the LVF wing simply "through the kindness" of murdered terrorist
boss Billy Wright. Earlier this month the Secretary of State Mo Mowlam
said that she accepted the validity of the LVF ceasefire.

In theory that could mean that bona fide members of the loyalist group
could be allowed out of prison within two years under the specific terms
of Good Friday Agreement. A prison spokesman said that he understood
that acceptance on a paramilitary wing effectively equated to
membership.

This however is not the view of Mr McClinton who himself has served a
lengthy term for sectarian murder. According to Mr McClinton the key to
Norman Coopey's acceptance on the LVF wing lay with the late Billy
Wright.

The Northern Ireland Prison Service has suggested that Noman Coopey is
being treated as a LVF prisoner. When quizzed by the Democrat the
spokesman said that Coopey was on the LVF wing and that effectively the
Prison Service looked no further than that. "If he is on the LVF wing
then they have obviously accepted him" he said.

A very bad man with a very interesting lawyer who was mentioned in The
Committee book, a clergyman mentioned therein is also at Drumcree at the
moment I think. He (Coopey) is thought to have been involved in the
torture killing of a young catholic kid. His lawyer faced charges in
onnecton with endangerment at Drumcree as well I think. Whole thing is a
crock of shit.

Import only, the Inquiries and court papers are just as good. THe CH4
stuff is pretty neat, the RUC were thoroughly and comprehensively
discredited by the internal inquiry. The Jackson/Wright stuff is public
domain more or less. Drumcree this year prised the door open a bit
further.
