FURY AS PARLIAMENT SITS UNDER URGENCY

There's fury in parliament today as MPs sit under urgency to pass a number
of Budget related bills.

Legislation that will see $92 million paid to family members who care for
their disabled children is going through all its stages in parliament.

The Government was forced to introduce the payment after the Court of Appeal
ruled it was discriminatory not to pay family carers.

Green MP Catherine Delahunty says the Bill continues to discriminate,
allowing family members to be paid less than other carers.

"It literally says spouses cannot be included even if they're doing the same
work as other family members and when we're talking about work, this is 24/7
work."

Labour MP Annette King is angry the Bill is being put through under urgency,
leaving the public with no chance to have their say.

"It is not good enough. It is disgraceful to bring in a Bill and to hand us
this sort of rubbish."
