The body of Cork South Central Fine Gael T.D. has apparently been washed
ashore near his home. He was reported missing last night, having gone for a
late night walk.

The rumour mill has already started with speculation that his death was
suicide following continuing investigation by the Moriarty Tribunal in
relation to payments to public representatives. Coveney was forced to
resign from as Minister for Defence in the previous Rainbow Government over
allegations that he tried to get state contracts for his own firm of
surveyors,

Real Irish people of whatever political inclination cherish their inherited
tradition of not speaking ill of the dead. It is in this cyberage a most
noble tradition and could never be more apt than in the case of Hugh
Coveney - a thorough and decent gentleman. As Hugh will be laid to rest
tomorrow (Wednesday 18 March 1998) I suggest that idle speculation on the
manner of his death be thrashed and proper respect paid to his family and
friends. For the moment I would rather accept the theory that he slipped as
he attempted to rescue one of the three dogs he was walking who became
trapped on a cliff bank. The rescue forces who recovered his body
emphasised that they so did with the assistance of a very distressed pet
dog.

Ah yes the good old days.
The days of the squinting windows, when people only spoke behind their
hands.
When politician made fortunes on the backs of the taxpayers. When our
children with systematically abused by catholic priests and nuns. When
unmarried were sent off to workhouses. When people were kept in the
dark, and those in the know were afraid to tell the truth.

Coveney may have been an affable fellow, and there is no doubt that his
family may deserve some sympathy, but there is a much bigger story here.
The is no doubt that the man's carrer in politics was under a cloud,
with talks of his been depressed etc. If the media are not prepared to
cover the story fully, then fine, but the one thing the "cyberage" has
re-inforced is the right to free speech.

Fine. You accept whatever theory you like, and the truth will probably
never be known, anyway. I would hate to think that misplaced sympathy
for a dead man's family would get in the way of a full and proper
investigation in the unethical behaviour which has tarnised Irish life
for decades.

This guy needs a slot in "The Life of Brian Mark 2". He seems happy to cast
unproven slurs against as far as I know a well liked person never proven
guilty of any other mis-demeanour other than making a call to the Chairman of
BGE concerning a request that his family be included in an arm's length
tender procedure. Recognising his error of judgment (is everyone bar this
fuckwit Mills a complete saint), he took the honourable course, paid a severe
price and resigned as a Minister. He is now being lumped with corruption and
child abusers. Hopefully this gobshite Mills will never darken our systems
of justice which of course while imperfect seeks fair process. May rumour
mongers reap their poison in kind.

What is a "real Irish person" ? I'm so scared I don't fall into this
category that the shite is running down me leg.

It's the Southern Comfort I tell you. (though it is hard to tell the
difference),

Never mind - we just leave him prattle on from time to time. Keith "I
hate me" Mills doesn't like himself too much and has an awful inferiority
complex about being Irish. He's like an annoying itch - if you scratch it, it
only gets more irritating.

As you must know, the resignation thing is OLD OLD news. (And even his
opponents thought what he did was harmless).

As for your Moriarty reference, what the press report said was that he had
given evidence to the tribunal.

Is being a witness a wrong ?

If you are that worried about it, you couldn't possibly be a "real
Irish person".

Ah Jesus - then it must be true! Who the fuck could argue with "Today FM"? I
mean all disbelief must be suspended immediately if it was covered on "Today
FM" and of course Keith is completely right as always - right up his arsehole.

P.S. Does "FM" stand for "Fucking Morons"?

What way did they cover it that was significantly differently ? I was
listening, and did not notice a difference.

Are you hiding behind Today FM, or do you have something to say for yourself
?
>:

A witness is someone who gives evidence. Evidence is what occurs when
someone is questioned.

You are presumably insinuating that he was a "defendant". He was not, I
say. You should put up or shut up.

If all you have is an impression gained from badly written news reports,
what you have been doing in this thread is a disgrace.
