Hallowe'en is an ancient festival too, if festival is the word.Tthe day
before the return of the pagan winter on the 1st November, the day
people make masks and other things to chase away the 'evil spirits' that
will return then. It's opposit is six months before, Walpurgis Nacht
when the 'evil spirits' have their last outing before pagan summer
returns ont he 1st of May.
Just FYI.. Samhain is the ancient name for Halloween.. :-)
............. :-)
Buy yourself some curly kale and you won't be so sick by the end of the
month.
Ah yes.. here's something for you.. :-)
Halloween Candy
I'm gonna buy some candy,
Some treats for Halloween,
Then I'm gonna take them home,
And feast till I turn green.
Them I'll go out with a sack,
Fill it to the top,
Cause it's way more cheaper,
Than going to the shop.
Then I'm going to take it home,
Feast, then shed a tear,
Knowing that I'll never have,
To last me for the year. :-(

Go get yourself a decent barn brack. I believe it is suitably
halloweeney, it is Irish, and most of all, it is yummy generously
spread with butter - real Irish yellow salted Kerrygold, if you can
find it your side of the pond (I think you should be able to).
Now, that is worth breaking the sacred timing barrier and celebrating
Sam Hain's feast a few weeks early.

Cat(h)
I know about the stick and the rag, but can't remember what the pea stood
for?
We used to chant, Trick or treat smell my feet; give me something good
to eat!
I thought you knew.

Oops. Thanks for that. Does the word mean anything (other than
signifying this day of course)?
I've never considered Whackypedia as an accurate source for things
like that.. :-)
True... I sometimes use it as a jumping off point to begin researching some
topic or other, but also search to find more solid fact based websites...

Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly
promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is
entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

As long as you put the candy inside a plastic pumpkin until after lunch on
Nov 1st.......it should be safe enough.
