Reza Pahlavi, at UCI event, calls for a secular democracy.

May 24, 2001

IRVINE - The son of the late Shah of Iran called Wednesday for a new regime
in his homeland that's free from the human- rights abuses associated with
both his father's government and the Islamic revolution that ousted it 22
years ago.

"The ship of freedom has set sail in my homeland," Reza Pahlavi, the
self-proclaimed shah in exile, said during a speech at the University of
California, Irvine. "The winds ... will give birth to a long-awaited secular
democracy in Iran."

The speech, held at the UCI Student Center, was attended by a heavily
Iranian audience of 425. More than 100 watched on a monitor outside the full
auditorium.

Pahlavi, 40, eldest son of the late Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, now lives in
suburban Maryland with his wife and two daughters.

He was trained as a fighter pilot in Texas before his father's ouster. He
earned a political-science degree from the University of Southern
California.

During his speech, Pahlavi expressed his dream to lead a peaceful movement
toward a new referendum "to guarantee freedom and self-determination for the
people of Iran."

He denounced the current Iranian regime as brutal and suppressive and Iran's
reform movement as a fraud.

Political candidates are confined to those selected by the 12-member
Guardian Council, he said. Political opponents "are imprisoned, tortured and
murdered." The press is intimidated.

Western governments, he said, are duped by the "perception of electoral
legitimacy," when, in fact, elections are manipulated the way the former
Soviet Union controlled balloting, he said.

The crowd included supporters and opponents of his theme of democratic
secularism.

Peter Metrahi, 45, who was visiting Southern California from the Bay area,
said many Iranians are comparing the current government with the past
monarchy. "A country like Iran, with its geographic situation, it's very
important to have a king, like Spain or England, to keep the unity," he
said. "I believe it's time to change."

Several Muslims were vehemently opposed to Pahlavi's message.

"His supporters are trying to re-establish the secular state, which is a
move against Islam," said Kaysar Ridha, 20, a third-year UCI student
originally from Iraq. "I feel that his speech is a bunch of fluff. ... He
knows what the people want to hear."

"Most of the people here are supporters of (Pahlavi) directly or supporters
of monarchy," said Javad Mostafavi, editor of a Laguna Hills-based Persian
magazine.

Iran's economy is suffering from a 35 percent unemployment rate and a 40
percent inflation rate, Pahlavi said. "Dramatic change in Iran is
inevitable. The only choice is whether it will occur peacefully."

Has he ever denouced the way that his aunts,uncles,....dad, felt comfortable
spending ,
monopolizing ,wasting iran's wealth?
Of course he is going to criticize IRI....Who does not like to reign and
feed relatives and friends?
We are in the current deep shit beacuse his family made a hero out of
Khomenei and kept the public isolated from democracy.

Hehe :) They made a hero out of Khomeyni? Reminds me
of the way the earlier CIA losers always described
the Iranian Revolution and its causes.

If you losers could grow, you wouldn't be looking
like each other no matter how many decades apart.

Hey man, don't waste your breath, do you think they ever come back. I
am not even complaining about the way that they run economical
affairs; at least they did far better than IR. However, ultimately,
Mohammad Reza was the sole man who caused khomeini to come. If he was
even a 0.5 percent as patriot as Reza Shah, he would have died in
fighting befoe letting that bastard take over. They just gave the
country to khomeni and said here take it, kill as many you like. And
as I have said before Moahmmad Reza tried to make people superstitious
and stupid so that he could use them, which ultimately opened the way
for the akhoond bastard and cummonists to take over. Let them make
some effort, we need all the help against akhoond bastards.

friends to buy deep holes and crawl into them. Otherwise, they are
going to be masacared. If that Mohammad Reza wasn't a weakminded
moron, he'd kill everyone of you bastards rather than put his tail
between his legs and flee. But don't worry, there have been plenty of
Reza Shah's trained in Iran by your IR. Just imagine 100, 000 Reza

lets see what you do. I can see your corps of you and your family on

What goes around, comes around. kings take the land back from Akhunds, Kings
become corrupted , and hand it over back to Akunds. Akhunds can't handle it,
they give it back to Kings. Over all, Iran is a nice piece of ass. Everyone
is after her, but it's time for her to settle done. She will end up with the
"Nice Guy" which is "Democracy".

Do you know how disrespectful to your own country you are? If you
people had a little respect then you wouldn't have run after khomeini
to destroy the country. Have some respect man; people like you with
no discipline and no respect got us where we are.

Kurosh jAn, you got me all wrong. It's an expression that comes from facts
about women, and has nothing to do with being disrespectful to my country.

Does the expression "a nice piece of ass" comes "from facts about women",
or does it come from the mind of an insensitive male chauvinist? your
expression is an insult to women. you need to watch your language.

Give me a break. Live a little!!!!!!! The guy was referring to Iran
for christ's sake.

This reminds me of a few months back when I referred to God as a "Him"
and not as a "Her". I might as well call God an "It" to avoid being
politically incorrect. This is nuts.

If you had the slightest notion of reality, you would actually be thankful for the late Shah's behavior at
the time of the revolution. When your fanatic brethren tried the same thing in Egypt, the army took to the
streets and outright machine gunned the Islamic fanatics that were trying to topple peace and decency.
In Iran on the other hand, you were blessed with a ruler that was more concerned about how he would be
perceived as "Arya Mehr" in the west and by the CIA, not to mention his obsession with Khomeini being an
Ayatollah, therefore a "man of God" and beyond a ruler's scepter of power. If you were dealing with Mobarak,
he would have machine gunned the likes of you and redneck from the very first breath of foul air you breathed
in the streets.

Take it as a complement, rathter than an insult.

Don't try mimiking the word chauvinist. This word is reserved for a person
like michelle , who is close minded, ignorant, fat ass pig, 300 pounds
lesbian HALF american sexiest taboo, who has been dumpt over and over and
has no clue where to search for women rights, than blaming men for her ugly
look.

both by using the word chauvinist.

Yes, and why don't they? They are holding %50 of human population don't
they?. Give me one damn good reason without blaming the men (your own
gender) for it?

basically the expressions we use when searching for strong words
to express our anger at Isalmic Republic and its agents, which are
executing and killing, is like kids using F* word to do get at the
powerful institutions, albeit he school. None of them mean fornification
with permission of the king. Nonetheless I agree that one should
search for better words to make such expressions. Bi-sharaf,
AshghAl, and kesAfat are among a few descriptive words
reserved for Islamic Republic criminals.

There were female prophetesses in history, and I can think of one right now who
began to perach at the time of mohammad. SHe was from a wealthy familly and
tribe in northern Arabia but she later converted to Islam and married a Muslim,
settling in Iraq I believe.
