Ohayo. Konbanwa. (Depends on what time you're reading this.)

Sci is getting boring nowadays, so I decided to put an article that's very
interesting for me. (I guess you all already guessed what my main interest
is, just look at my sig)
It was also posted in the shoujo ML. Those who don't already know what
shoujo is anyway, you probably won't be interested in it, so unless you
are into Japanese comics, don't bother asking me what shoujo is. <Even we
at the shoujo ML haven't been able to define what is shoujo. :) >
Comments on the list however, are welcome. Flames aren't.
Btw, for those who remember when I offer a lend_some_comics_program, I'm
still in trouble finding a source in Indonesia, so until I post a new
info on this, just forget about it. Really, sorry.

<begin list>

Ohayo, konbanwa, or whatever greetings appropriate with the time you read this.

Hi, I just got a list of most manga published in Indonesia a week ago. It
will be interesting for those Indonesian out there (I'm sending copies of
this article to them), but the main reason I posted it here is because I
want to find out what is the real title of those manga and what is *your*
opinion on them.

Since it was mostly shoujo, I'll post them in the shoujo ML (that's here).
Anyone who is not interested feel free to quit right now.

The format is title, (orig. title) if known, <title in English>.
If a title can't be translated into English, it will be left as is.

After that came the name of the author, LAST-NAME first-name. Since Indone-
sian romanization might be different from the one commonly used here, there
might be some slight errors, example: the "ou" isn't recognized in Indonesian,
it's simply listed as "o". If you found an error, feel free to correct it.

The list will be divided into two by the publisher's name. Currently there's
two publishers in Indonesia. Elek Media Komputindo (Elek, or sometimes Elex)
and Rajawali Sakti Grafitti (Rajawali). Due to Rajawali's policy of not
printing the copyright page (which contains the author's name(s) and the ori-
ginal title), those manga by Rajawali will have blanks in place of the
author's name(s) and orig. title.

Start. In no order at all. Various personal comments will be placed when-
ever I want to.

Manga published by Elek:
1. Pop Corn (Seito Shokun) SHOJI Yoko
2. Miracle Girl AKIMOTO Nami
I wonder why Akimoto Nami isn't listed in the Manga Guide.

3. Princess Army KITAGAWA Miyuki
4. Misteri Ernest <Ernest's Mystery> MATSUMOTO Yoko
5. S.O.S. "
6. Missing Force "
7. Missing Face "
8. Misteri Harta Karun "
<Mystery of the Treasure>
9. Missing Time MATSUMOTO Yoko & AKAGAWA Jiro
Matsumoto Yoko seems to focus on mystery and horror, exception is SOS, which
is comedy with detective background.

10. Natane (Nijiiro Tougarashi) Adachi Mitsuru
11. Kenji MATSUDA Ryuichi & FUJIWARA Yoshide
12. Kungfu-Boy MAEKAWA Takeshi
13. Break-Shot "
14. Min-Min ASAGIRI Yuu
15. Panic "
16. Seven Magic "
17. Sunflower "
18. I Love Boy "
My favorite writer. Cute characters. Sunflower is a collection of short
stories.

19. Kristy SAGARA Kyoko
20. Little New York YAMATO Waki
21. Miss Modern YAMATO Waki
Yamato's stuff looks like something from the '70s. Can't remember if it is
from the '70s.

22. Alpen Rose Michiyo Akashi
23. Setinggi Langit dan Bintang "
<As High As The Sky And The Star>
24. Peppermint Age MAEDA Etsuko
New one. Who is Maeda and what works has she done?

25. Pansy OKUMURA Mariko
Similar with Candy-Candy. The writer's name is kinda unclear, could be Okimura.
Clue: Pansy is probably not the orig. title, but she's the main character.
The name Pansy is taken from Chimpanzee, since she grows up with them (Tarzan-
like). Unlike Tarzan, Pansy was found when she's still little (9 years old?),
and she wants to, tries to, and succeeds in returning to civilization.

26. Candy-Candy IGARASHI Yumiko & MIZUKI Kyoko
27. Milky Magic KAWACHI Yukari
28. Fairy "
29. 7200 detik (7200 second) "
What I like about Kawachi is not her arts and story actually, but her side-
notes.

30. Mari-chan UEHARA Kimiko
31. Happy Mari-chan "
32. Karina "
33. Lovely Mari-chan "
34. Silver Toe Shoes "
Bleah. Too much ballet will knock me off anytime. Her stories has same theme
(ballet), same arts (characters always look the same), and even same name
for the main characters (always a twin named Mari, except in Karina).

35. Nazo Maru ICHIGEKI Kago
36. Goldfish (Kingyou Chuihou!) Nekobe Neko
Does anyone knows for sure if Nekobe Neko is a real name? I thought it was
an alias, and if it's true, what is the true name of the writer?

37. Doraemon FUJIO Fujiko F.
38. Sailor Moon TAKEUCHI Naoko
Yokata!

39. Eine Kleine TAKEDA Mariko
New one. No clue whatsoever. Can anyone help?

40. Sweet Rabu-Rabu INAGUCHI Yumi
41. Pank Ponk HARUKU Tachiri
Both 40 and 41 are kiddie stuff and VERY FUNNY.

42. Young Girl
43. Georgia Abbot
44. Heidi
45. Secret Garden
46. Little Prince.
All of the above (42-46) are adaptions of famous stories. Young Girl=Little
Women, Little Prince probably=Little Fauntleroy. Who did the adaption are
unknown yet. The authors of those stories, however, are well known, check
your local library for more info.

47. Time Tunnel AYUMI Yui
48. Our Secret ARISAWA Ryo
49. Saint Roommate TAKASE Ryo
50. Spring KAWAGA Yumi
51. Seara OMI Ayuko
These five seems to be a short story or collection of short stories made
by beginners (IMO). Art quality is good, but storywise it's weak. Possible
exception is Spring, which I haven't read.

52. Marie Hinton TAKEDA Mariko
New one, no clue. Help.

53. Rose of Versailles IKEDA Riyoko
54. Cherry TAKEUCHI Michiko
55. Boy Action CHIBA Tetsuya
Chiba has good stories but unusual graphic. Anyone knows Chiba?

56. Fishing Fun YAGUCHI Takao
57. Asari-chan MAYUMI Mutoyama
Possible error in 57. Author's name order might be wrong.

58. Mini 4-Top TANAKA Tetsuo
59. Pasukan Zoids (Zoids Troop) AOKI Takao
Shameless story for kids based from and especially for advertising toys.

60. Peanuts Avenue AKIMOTO Nami
Hitoshi, ever read this one?

61. Kapten Kid <Captain Kidd> UNO Hiroshi
62. Magic Ball Danpei TETSUHIRO Koshita
63. Akira OTOMO Katsuhiro
64. Si Cerdik Michael MAKOTO Kobayasi
I think Michael was published in US as What's up Michael. Michael is a cat.

Part deux. Manga published by Rajawali:
1. Azuka Cewek Tomboy <Azuka the Tomboy>
I'm pretty sure the orig. title isn't a bit like this. The story is basically
a girl who confronts a high-school girls gang (what was that word, sukeban?).
Similar to Sukeban Deka by Wada Shinji, I think. Can anyone send me a pic
of Asamiya Saki from Sukeban Deka?

2. Warashi Dewa Naga Air <Warashi The Water Dragon Spirit>
3. Darah Satria
Forgot the orig. title. Sorry. It got a number it in though. Story is about
high-school guys. Gets weirder each episodes. Has a Kenshiro look-alike as
the main character.

4. Shogun
No connection whatsoever with shoguns. If you find a story where a homeless
young man beats a transnational company owner/director in an economic com-
petition, that's it.

5. Dragon Ball TORIYAMA Akira
6. Dragon Ball II (Dragon Ball Z) "
7. Dr. Slump "
8. 3x3 Mata (3x3 Eyes) TAKADA Yuzo
9. Robocop (Patlabor 2.) YUKI Masami
No connection whatsoever with Robocop. It's actually Patlabor 2.

10. Peacock King (Kujaku-Oh) OGINO Makoto
11. Yazuka
Possible error in 11. The title could be Yakuza.

12. Godsider
13. Ninja
14. City Hunter HOUJOU Tsukasa
15. Ranma 1/2 TAKAHASHI Rumiko
16. Rin Anak Ajaib <Rin the Wonder Girl>
17. Mission Impossible ARAKI Hirohiko
(Jojo's Bizarre Adventure)
No connection whatsoever with the famous TV series. Just another quirks of
name title-changing Indonesian publishers.

18. Tinju Tujuh Bintang Utara HARA Tetsuo
(Hokuto no Ken) <Fist of The North Star>
19. Devilman NAGAI Gou
20. Saint Seiya
21. Astro Boy (Tetsuwan Atom) TEZUKA Ozamu
I didn't remember exactly if Astro Boy was published by Rajawali or by Elek.
The format however is very similar to Rajawali's. Curiously, if it is from
Rajawali, then it's the first one to have a copyright page with author's
name and original title.

Lots of manga published by Rajawali wasn't included in the list.
Only few of the manga published by Elek isn't included in the list (eg.
Kobo-chan).

Part 33 1/3. There's only one other manga that is not published by either
Elek or Garuda. That's Mai (Mai: The Psychic Girl), story by Kazuya Kudo
and art by Ryoichi Ikegami published by Misurind.

That's all I know and remember.

"ANIME-MANGA FOREVER!"
Tony.

Tuh, no 12.
Sekarang Takeshi Maekawa lagi bikin Breakshot. Ceritanya soal bilyar. Sangat
tidak masuk akal! Tokohnya persis sama Chinmi, cuma settingnya aja yang beda,
dan di Breakshot Chinmi bukan jago kungfu, dia jago bilyar.
Kalau kamu senang kungfu, mending baca Kenji. Jauh lebih bagus daripada Kung-
fu Boy. (Udah gitu ceweknya lebih cakep, siapa ya namanya? Akira?)

Natane: Natane udah tamat. Natane bukan seorang dari 7 bersaudara. Natane jadi
sama Sichimi. Tebakan saya kakaknya Natanelah yang termasuk 7 bersaudara.
Ehm, saya sendiri belum baca, tapi dikasih tahu lewat surat.

"ANIME-MANGA FOREVER!"
Tony.

He..he..he...sorry ya kelupaan! Biasa udah makin "kabur" aja nih mata :-)
Iya, saya emang suka kungfu. DULU suka mbaca Tiger Wong, Tapak Sakti, dsb.;
tapi sekarang udah enggak lagi. Ongkos ngirim buku2 tsb. dari Jakarta/Indo
mahal, jadinya sekarang2 ini terpaksa "puasa" dulu deh :-) nanti kali kalo
balik pulang baru diterusin mbacanya....

Terima kasih atas koreksinya.
