No. Oka nari vonda Tupakulu was the first cinemascope film
made in Black and white in Telugu. It was not made in 70 mm.
During that time, only Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Vizag (I doubt)
had 70mm screening facilities and it is not commercially profitable
to release separate 70 mm prints for 3-4 theatres.

BTW, for screening 70mm films, we require a separate set of
projectors. Meaning, each theatre should have total 4 projectors -
2 for 35mm/cinemascope and two for 70mm. The theatre should be
Air conditioned with good acoustics with 4 tracks sound speakers
behind the screenand 2 tracks outside the screen and hence the
usage (6 track stereo phonic sound.)

Vijayawada Urvashi theatre used to charge extra rates for admission for
70mm films. (Mackenna's Gold, Spartacus etc.)

I exactly dont know which is the first 70mm film in Telugu.
I think it is Krishna's "Simhasanam." Later, Konda veeti donga etc.
were made in 70mm.

Netters, can anybody list out 70mm films of Telugu ?

"Devatalara Deevinchandi" is another cinemascope film made in
black and white by Giri Babu. (A well made film.) There are
plenty of films made in cinemascope later.

Anybody remembers other 3-D films made in Telugu other than
Chota Chetan which is a dubbed version ?

Chowdary Jampala garu wrote that Okanari.. was the first cinemascope
film and earlier, some films were made partly cinemascope...

Sorry, there were no other films with partly scope. There are plenty
of films with partly colour (Bandipotu, Veerabhimanyu, Mooganomu,
Poolarangadu.. etc.).

Making partly cinemascope film is cumbersome for the theatre owners.

With the 35mm projectors, we need to use a separate lense for
the cinemascope projections. When Oka nari... was released, most of
the B and C centre theatres did not have the lenses. The producers
distributors provided the lenses to the owners.

The film is the SAME for both 35mm and cinemascope. But the image
on the film is elongated for cinemacope. With the help of the lense,
the image is broadened.

Have you ever seen cinemascope films with 35 mm lense ? When a
a trailer for an english film is shown, and when the trailer is
in cinemascope, the operator does not have time or the lense
and projects it with the same 35 mm lense. (Example Ongole Sri Shyam
prasad theatre lo Adivaram Udayam Aata Matrame - Goodachari
Monagadu - (The spy who loved me ki Telugu translation !).

I know in some places, for Sunday morning English films the
admission is on "Class concession" basis. Meaning, if yo buy a
ticket for "Nela", you can sit and watch the movie in "benchi".

In some places, Sunday early morning, a "Goodu Riksha" with a
microphone and gramaphone player (danni 10minutes ki oka sari
tipputoo undali) literally sells the tickets at our door step.
The rikshaw travels around the town vedhulu and tickets can be
bought from the person in the goodu rikshaw !!

The guy in the rikshaw keeps announcing, distributes the pamphlets
and also sells tickets. (While that guy is busy in collecting
the money, we kids used to sneak to the microphone and yell
"Hello, hello" and feel out of the world that our voice has
come through the Myku.

Anybody remember the Telugu names for English films - For those
not aware who are brought up in Hyderabad and cities ...
Places like VZA, Nellore, Ongole, Guntur, the English films are
released with Telugu names - "Fear over the city - Kadilte tantadu,
medilte kalchestadu". Thunder ball as Prachanda Jalagarbha
Monagadu etc, etc...

Madhu.

I think the name is "Sagar". After the hit of "Chota Chetan",
there were a bunch of 3-D movies in telugu and hindi.
All were mega-flops!!
