I think bujjaayi could be his real name. Once I met him and he
was introduced to me as 'bujjaayi'. I believe that he is the son of Sri
dEvulapalli kRIshNa Saastri. He is still drawing, and actually Andhra
Prabha weekly announced that they will be printing a new 'Dumbu' serial by
bujjaayi this month.
For several years, bujjaayi drew a daily strip, pettandaaru, in Andhra
jyOti daily. His Dumbu is, of course, very popular. There used to be an
American comic strip called 'Dondi' (I haven't seen it in almsot 10
years, now). That strip used to remind me of Dumbu (drawing style, not
content).

I can't tell you if there are any cartoonists that you can adore ;-)
But, there are several of them that are active. eenaaDu Sreedhar
and udayam mOhan draw great political cartoons. Sanku, jayadEv, baali and
others draw good cartoons too. bi.vi. satyamoorti (chaduvulraavu fame) is
another. I have an old (December 1994) issue of the monthly aahvaanam,
which was a special issue on Telugu cartoonists.

I don't think there are any now. Over the years, several 'humor'
magazines came into being, but none of them lasted long. Apart from
navvulu-puvvulu, pakapakalu and jOker come to mind immediately. The
Croquil cartoonists club also published a magazine for several years.
That too died, I think. vijaya monthly used to carry a special 'comedy'
supplement. But, that too is no more.

Actually, I do not remember many 'comic book' type serials in
chandamaama and baalamitra, though almost all the stories were heavily
illustrated. I remember a Tenali Ramakrishna serial in chandamama, but
that was in issues that were published even before I began reading that
magazine.
Now, many Telugu magazines carry serial 'comic' strips, usually a
translation of a strip from another language (English or Hindi). I
remember seeing Telugu editions of some Amar Chitra Katha comics in book
stores.

I used to collect various cartoons in Andhra Patrika, Prabha and other
magazines. Could not find a cartoonist that I could adore.

Coming to Comics in Telugu:
Chandamamama and Balamitra used to contain excellent
Comics (serials) ranging from Patriotic through historical to
fiction. But, my question is -- Are there any comics in Telugu
similar to the comics published here (like the Marvel etc)?
Is any of those Amarachitrakadha series brought in Telugu?

Yes! dEvulapalli subbaraayaSaastri (a.k.a. "bujjaayi") is son of
Sree dEvulapalli kRshNaSaastri.

female.
