* 1995 produced the biggest hit in the history
of Telugu movie industry in PedaRayudu. All
Time Record setter for Total collection. Well
made movie with good performances and no vulgarity
imbedded in a stereotypical story.
* Among the hits include,
Ammayi Kapuram with no popular starcast. It had
a new heroine. Not a new story but, some creativity
was shown in the way the heroine solves the
problems at her inlaws's house.
Subha Sankalpam brught good name to SPB as a
producer. K.Viswanath was not only a director
for this movie but he got a lot of praise for
his role in the movie as an actor. This movie
definitely lived upto it's expectations from the
people.
As far as Alludaa Mazaakaa is concerned, there
was a lot of contraversy associated with it.
Became notorious for excessive vulgarity. It
had a tough time passing through the censor
scrutiny. Despite all this, the movie had some
comedy in addition to the presence of Mega Star
to go along with Ramya/Rambha to make it a HIT.
A good taking, good story, action, sentiment
and suspense contributed to the success of
Suresh Productions movie Taj Mahal.
Gulaabi ran on the strength of a good story too.
A well made movie with technical brilliance as
expected, to go along with action and comedy.
Good Music, No vulgarity. Brought new director
Krishna Vamsee (From RGV school) into limelight.
RGV praised the efforts of the new director,
especially the way he picturised the bike song.
Vorey Rikshaw had two strengths: One: Dasari and
Two: R.Narayana Murty. A lot of care was taken
for the story, good songs, dialogues, picturizations
were the movie's highlights. This movie surprised
everyone by performing so well at "A" centers in
addition to the B and C centers.
The technical aspects of AMMORU contributed to it's
success. This is a first of it's kind movie, and
hence it's success.
* Among the above average rated movies,
SISINDRI was a new experiment, SUBHAMASTHU
was a good family oriented one, AAYANAKI IDDARU
was a variety movie, AMMA DONGA a New fantasy,
KHAIDI INSPECTOR shows how the police values
were protected and GHARANA BULLODU remains
a mystery as to why it was above average.
* Average movies include Maayaa Bazaar,
Cheemaladandu and Amma Naa Kodalaa. This low
number of Average movies shows that people
either really liked the movies or totally
rejected them, in 1995.
* This year, the following other
movies fall into the category of good and decent
ones:
Drohi - Kamal Hasan
Chilakapachani Kapuram - Jagapathi Babu
Kondapalli Rathiah - Dasari
Mister Mayagadu
Godfather - ANR
Ghatochkachudu
Punyabhoomi Naa Desam
Rambantu
Mounam
Auntie
Vaddu Baavaa Thappu
Sogasu Chooda Tharamaa
Sankalpam
* Around 50 dubbed movies were released.
Bombay and Baashaa were considered HITS.
SATHEE LEELAVATHI - Above Average
Commando - Average.
* Overall, 1995 shows some signs of fade away of
Heroism and Super Hero oriented movies. The top
4 heros Chi/Nag/Vt/BK had 6 movies in 1995.
Exclude Nag's two secondary role movies. Of the
6, 4 were failures. Alludaa Mazaaka was the lone
hit. All these 6 movies seemed to have a very
monotonous story line.

Bhimaraju,
As usual, you have shown some diligent work in churning out
the statistics ( with all the permutations and combinations
possible ) of telugu movies.
Also I am glad to see a trend which shows a lot of maturity on
part of telugu film patrons. I am listing a couple of my
opinions based on your statistics
> * Total Number of Movies Released = 75
> Number of Hits = 19
>
> Approximately 25% of movies released in
> 1995 were considered as HITS.
-It is interesting to note that only 75 movies were released
as opposed to 100+ in late 1980s. My conclusion:- Reduction
in trash oriented movies (note 25% hit movies is a good %)
>
> * Number Of Movies by Heros

>
> Chiranjeevi - 3
> Bala Krishna - 1
> Nagarjuna - 3
> Venkatesh - 1
> Jagapathi Babu - 5

> the list goes on
-The number of movies acted by top heroes/year seems to be on
the downtrend too. I am pleased with that. With 75+ movies
being produced in a year, there is definitely a lot of room
for many heroes.I clearly remember a time (in HINDI movies)
when Rajnikant, Govinda and Jeetendra movies were being
released at the rate one each month.
MONOLITHISM DOWN DOWN! Talent UP! UP!!
CHIFANA, NAGFANA, BALAFANA :- TUSSsssssssssss
>>> Movie Reviews: Censored to save some bandwidth
-Based on the brief movie reviews, I am of the opinion that the
movies with a good storyline and some decent comedy were the
winners. Stars/Megastars did not make the film as they did in
the past. Most of the stars are not bad actors, but I guess
they were too much economically overvalued and besides they
stuck to their stereotypes (many would disagree on this point)
-I am also eagerly looking forward to the rejection of usual
cliches, the dream sequences and the explicit vulgarity (yeah
those gyrations that Sri KT NARAYANA used to mention). If the
songs are consistent with the storyline, it is fine but in most
of the cases they just hit out of the blue. I am sure good
movies can be made within the constraints that I have
mentioned and it certainly is not a tall order.

Keep up the good work. To all the members of assortedFANA
Associations- BOOOOOOOO
Murali Boyapati
(Have you ever donated blood? If not please consider doing so)
Those who r following telugu movies for a while know that this is not
a trend which started in 1995. Most of the top stars have reduced their
# of movies per year. For example, Chiru had done this atleast 5 yrs
back. He has not done more than 3 telugu movies an year for long time
now. The reason why Venkatesh and Nagarjuna had only one movie was, they
were doing too bad to afford to have movies. They rightly took some break
and have some good movies lined up now. The very reason why the # of
movies per year has reduced in Telugu is bcoz of these stars. As is the
case always, MEGASTAR set this trend. Even VijayShanthi followed suit. By
doing so, she made way for the Ramyas, Soundaryas and Nagmas.
Just to make a point, although out of context, CHIFANA was the first
group on CYBERSPACE to bring some telugu movie news to people who r
interested. The only way we had these news distributed those days was
EMAIL. Now with the websing of the world, things have changed, and those
interested people can access the news thru webs.Even tho CHIFANA ceases
to be active on net, it can still make its presence felt!
Chiru met PM Rao recently(Jan 4th) and discussed with him about the
proposed project to produce Ramayana in Hollywood.
Rama-to-be-Stevan-Segal and one of the producers of the movie also met
the PM. Chiru going global!!!!
"A flop movie by a star makes more money than a hit movie by a non-star."
This is the reason why producers keep making movies with a same story
line with these stars.
