A Tribute to the Great One.
--------------------------

*******************************************************
* VISWA VIKYATHA - NATA SAARVA BHOUMA - NATA RATNA - *
* PADMASREE - NANDAMURI TARAKA RAMA RAO *
*******************************************************

NTR is no more. But life goes on as usual.
However, I would just like to share my brightest
moments of watching NTR's movies.

* Remember Nartana Saala ? When Brihannala converts
to Arjuna in front of the mighty Kaurava army ?
NTR in Arjuna costume made me feel that even the
REAL ARJUNA (if mahabharatha ever happened) would
*not* have looked that handsome himself. He looked
as if he was the real Arjuna, Simply superb and
probably never ever would anyone even come close to
that. ( Karna the Brave, Agree with me ?? )

* In the history of Indian Cinema nobody has ever
matched NTR's marvelous potrayal of Lord Krishna.
Of the many such roles, these really stand at the
top of my brightest moments:

1. Sri Krishnavatharam - During the Bhagavadgeetha
song.
2. Sri Krishna Vijayam - Duel with SVR.
3. Sri Krishnarjuna Yuddam and Panda Veeyam.

* Excelled as Duryodhana in Sri Krishna Pandaveeyam and
DVS Karna, specially during the maya sabha scene.

* As Bheema in Pandava Vanavasam when he vows to kill
Duryodhana. (Dharuni Rajya sampada madam...)

* His perforamce in the following song sequences :

1. Janma Methithiraa .. (Gudi gantalu)
2. A song from Kalsivunte Kaladu Sukham.
3. A song from ADAVI RAMUDU.
4. Chandurini minchi (Rakta Sambandam)
5. .... chinadaanini manasu (Chiranjeevulu)
6. A song from Yamagola.
7. Intenaya Thelusukovaya (Kathanayakudu)

can never be forgotten.

* Some of the unforgettable movies of NTR, for me :

1. ADAVI RAMUDU
2. YAMA GOLA
3. CHIRANJEEVULU
4. MAYA BAZAAR
5. GUNDAMMA KATHA
6. MISSAMMA
7. THIKKA SANKARAYYA
8. DVS Karna
9. Sri Krishna Pandaveeyam
10. Bobbili Puli

* Since Adavi Ramudu (1978), I didn't miss watching any of
NTR's movies. Overall I must have seen around 150 of his
movies. Once in 1983, I counted atleast 130 from the
Movie List Book, that I have seen.

If there is any one single person who had the greatest
influence in the 63 - 65 year old history of the Telugu
cinema, UNDOUBTEDLY it has to be NTR.
For all the bright moments he has given to the people
and me, I salute him.

P.S. It would be great if some of you
could post your brightest
moments from NTR's movies.

As an ardent admirer of NTR-the actor I couldn't resist following up :-)
You are 100% right about the portrayal of Arjuna in NartanaSala.
Maybe it was the garnments, or maybe the auduence were tired of seeing
a dragqueen(hehe) he appeared extremely handsome and majestic in the last
half an hr (plus the beginning) of that movie. One can never forget
his action combined with Ghantasala's 'gabeera kantam' for the poems
'Enungu nekki..' 'Prelithivennomarulu kuruvruddula mundara'
or his praise for yudhistara 'Evaani vakita vibama.."
Some of his memorable portrayals as I remember are 'Bhookailas'
Bheema in 'Pandava Vanavasam'(this movie mostly is a copy of mayabazar)

> * Excelled as Duryodhana in Sri Krishna Pandaveeyam and
> DVS Karna, specially during the maya sabha scene.
DVS karna was specifically made to compete with Krishna's Kurukshetram
and hence was made in the shortest period possible, the photography
and art is lousy , but the movie was a megahit for his portrayl
of Duryodhan, but I still think his role as Duryodhana in "srikrishna
Pandeevayam' was much better
No telugu actor so far has excelled in the 'navarasas' as did NTR.
(ANR and SVR come close but ANR can't do Roudram, Bhayankaram, while
SVR can't do Sringaram), in this sense NTR is unique. Some of his Navarasa
as I remember are.
1. Santam - Krishna in any of his old movies,
2. Roudram-Bheema in Pandava Vanavasam
3. Sringaram -any of his 70's 80's will do
4. Athbutham- Bheeshma
5. Vishadam- Chiranjeevulu
6.Bhayankaram- Rudra Veena by Ravan Brahma in Seetharam Kalyanam
I forgot the rest, can some one full the names..? :-)
iAs long as SVR was alive he used to hone up his talents and do retakes again
and again for a godo performance, example is Pandavavanasam.
In this Bheema sings a couple of poems (Dharuni..) and SVR says just one word
"Cha, Baanisa, baanisalikintha ahambavama..~ NTR felt that was doing injustice
to his ro;e and took many retakes and what we see is two great actors
performing in an extraordinary way. There was tjhis episode in
Krishna Pandeevayam, for the song 'Matthuvadalar.. niddura.." the song
writer was struggling to finish wit ha word that rhymes with..
"Chepputaye Naa dharmam, vinakapothe nee.." It was Ntr who filled with
"vinaka pothe nee kharmam'
Some of his great roles I can recollect are.
1.Mayabazar
2.Missamma
3.pandava Vanavasam
4.Luva-Kusa(this movie is the greatest hit in telugu film industry
reportedly earned for teh producers for generations to come, the first
color picture, 1965-66)
5.Gudigantalu
6.Paruvu-Prathista
7.Gulabhakavli katha(his first directed, his name didn't appear though)
8.Jagadekaveeruni Katha
9.Krishna Pandaveeyam(KR vijya looked extremely beautiful ONLY in this film :-)
Pettandarlu
11.Bheeshma
12. Bhookailas
13. Tenali Ramakrishna
teh list can go on and on..
But , from 1970's por later he started doing overaction, for those ppl
who used to enjoy his older movies his 70's and 80's movies are dud.
exceptions are Sardar paparayudu(teh elder role), Kondaveeti Simham
to some extent BebbuluPuli. To his credit he introduced some nice actresses
who shined well. One can recall B.SarojaDevi in 60's and Jayaprada
and Sridevi got that BIG lucky break with NTR(Advari Ramudu,
Yamagola for Jayaprada, Vetagadu for Sridevi)
He is very disciplined who used to come to teh shooting on time
and due to his stature no other actor/actress can afford to be late
or be less than perfect in the scenes involving him.
On the negative side he had his share of things, the affair with krishna
kumari almost ruined his marriage but he was never known to be wanton
(another such gentleman is ANR) Overall he acted in 330+ movies
his success rate was very high, I think Savitri acted acted in some 28-30
movies as his heroine(a record if we discount Krishna and Viajanirmala)
and NTR and ANR acted together in some 15films, most of them were hits.
We can confidently say he represented an era of the BEST in the telugu
film industry. Together with ANR and SVR they are the best amongst the
best.
It is no exaggregation if I say teh Telugu movie industry without NTR is
'Ramudu leni Ayodhya..'
He has a profound impact on me in my love for telugu/sanskrit. I watched some
250+ movies of NTR and I have teh biggest collection of his songs
in his movies and some modest collection of old film videocassettes.
I sometimes wish he never joined politics and screw up things like he did.
Overall he lived a meaningful life, people may call him 'moorka Nd mondivadu'
but he has character and personality, good or bad he stood by it, even when
his whole family is abusing his wife LP when teh easiest way to get back
to power is to discard her, he stood by her(I don't like her btw)
that require guts and NTR has guts.
May his soul rest in peace. Andhra misses him.

Amen !. I am anot an avid movie goer but I have thorougly enjoyed
NTR's historical movies (RAmAyanam and MahAbhAratham). Except for
SVR, no other actor came close to NTR's great acting skills in
pourAnikam movies. I am trying to collect his "pourAnikam" movies
now.

May his soul rest in peace.

Let me add one of the NTR movies I saw recently, that I believe should
rate among his very best and its "Kanyashulkam", his portrayal of Girisham's
role is awesome.

It is the other way around, only NTR came close to SVR in pouranikam movies.

I don't hesitate to declare that there is no one parallel to NTR in action on silver screen in the South Indian Cine world and for that matter in the Indain Cine World.

The movies in which NTR acted those I like are:

1) viira'Bimanyu - as kRshNa
2) Biishma - as Biishma - Could any one act like him as Biishma'ca'ryulu.
I don't want to compare. I would like to keep that role for NTR only.
That is history. This is NTR's greatest piece of action.

3) siita'ra'makaLya'Nam : ra'vaNa. This is his own production.
He acted as ra'vaNa and did justice to the role he chose.
He captured the audience for ever.

4) va'lmiiki : Acted as va'lmiiki. I still visualize NTR acting as
va'lmiiki whenever I think or talk about va'lmiki.

5) baDipamtulu : Superb action as an old teacher.
Proved once again that he could act even as an old telugu baDipamtulu.

6) kODalu diddina ka'puram : Direction, Story, Screenplay by NTR.
What a satire! Dailogues make you burst into laughter.

7) palana'Ti kadha : as brahmana'yuDu
Superb action. Competed tooth and nail with Bhanumati.

8) bobbili yudhdham : Wonderful action. Sublime emotions.

9) ra'muDu BiimuDu : Unfortettable

10) gumDamma kadha : Comedy - Classic

11) da'guDu mootalu : Unforgettable

12) yamagOla : comedy - competed with Rao Gopala Rao

13) nirdOshi : malliyala'ra ma'likala'ra' maunamuga' vunna'ra'

14) Eka viira : Wonderful - Acted and made Viswanadha's Eka viira
enjoyable easily.

15) appucEsi pappukooDu : another classic

16) peLLi cEsi cooDu : peLLi cEsukoni illu coosukoni callaga ka'lam gaDapa'li

17) venkatEsvara maha'tyam : NTR is Venkateswara : The then beleif

18) dEvuDu cEsina manushulu : Rogue but a kind hearted guy.

19) potuluri viirabrahmam : Courageous to take up roles like this one.

20) jagadEkaviiruni kadha : ra'ra' kana ra'ra'
Siva Samkarii

21) pa'ta'LaBairavi : Unforgettable

22) satyaharischamdra : Another classic

Many More. NTR's name is in History of Telugu Film Acting.
