BATA = bay area telugu assoc.
ATA = american telugu assoc.
TANA = telugu assoc of north america
GWTC, MATA etc etc..

All most all Telugu associations are named in English.
Also most of the Telugu celebrations that had been to
had anouncements in English!!!
I think thats totally ridiculous. We just dont have
pride and self respect (warning: not referring to everyone).
Most of the Tamil and Kannada assoc have their names
in respective languages. But for NTR, AP would not have
had any recognition as Telugu state. Believe me, many
Indians from other places came to know about Telugu
language only after NTR. Telugus are loosing identity
day by day. I have seen some Telugus who are even
ashamed of speaking in their own language.

Let start renaming those damn associations in Telugu..

eg: TANA = Uthara Americaa Telugu Sangham (something like that).

Any other thoughts?

Dhanyavaadaalu,
Ramesh

ayya Sri Ramesh gaaru, tamaru telugu sanghaala pErlu anglamulO unnavani
vimarSincaDaaniki, telugu gaakunDa, anglamunE vaaditiri !!

(It is interesting that criticising that Telugu Associations should have
Telugu names instead of current English names is made in English itself!)
Since the original posting is in English, I am also resorting to comment in
English itself! (telugu Bhaasha kidi cinnacoopu kaadani naa manavi!)

First of all, the word "association" is freely used in Telugu novels and
literature. Second of all, it serves to give some indication of what it is
to non-Telugu knowing people, which I think is good.
However, I agree completely with you, regarding announcements made only
in English and not inTelugu.

Sorry for using English. I am not used to typing in Telugu so I prefer
typing in English. Btw, I dont say the same thing while speaking.. I mean
always speak Telugu with telugu paurulu :)

Point is, its a well know fact that the Telugu people dont have pride like
Tamils, Bengalis, Malayalis etc. Its all nonsense when someone says its for
others convenience bla bla. You have Telugu associations only to promote
Telugu culture. Don't tell me if the name itself is in Telugu, people
wouldnt understand what it is. Tamil Mundram (spelling?) and
Kannada Koota (spelling?) are couple of examples. Do have difficulty in
understanding those names? A person who is new to those languages will
find out what it means and start feeling the identity of that community
right away. As far as announcements being in English is concerned its
absolutely ridiculous to say its just for convenience for the people who
dont understand Telugu. Have the programme schedule both in Telugu and
English.

Lets start giving more respect to our known language.
Mana Bhaashanu Manamu Gauravinchatam Praarambhisdaamu.

Ramesh

Dear Sri Ramesh gAru:
First of all let me apologize for making a bit of fun on what you said earlier.
It was not my intent to downplay your seriousness and value of your message. I understand
well enough your good intentions and love for our language and culture.

I have a some questions:
1) Why do we have these Telugu Associations?
2) What is the MISSION of "A" Telugu Association?
3) What is Telugu Culture?
4) Are we promoting Telugu Culture?

Until these are clear in the minds of our people, it is going to be difficult where
we are heading.
Or do you say that these associations are for our kids?
Then some more questions:

5) How many of our Telugu kids are serious about our language and culture?
6) How many of our kids speak, read, and understand Telugu Language?
7) How many of our kids really participate in the serious stuff of our
associations?

Or do you say that these associations are for us, the real Telugu Adults only?

(You: Is the Royal "You".)
tappulunna kshmiMcavalenu.
regards
