I think Kakinada is one of the best places to live. It is a small town
and the weather is also nice.

In our discussion on the best/most livable towns in AP,

let's start from the very best town.

KAKINADA.

I don't think I need to write any reasons..qualifying KKD as
the best/most livable town in AP.

Giri..& bestwishes.

Well, Having connections to both the places [Guntur and Kakinada], I
must evaluate this issue objctively. For this purpose, let's use the
age-old rule of Baddena:

appiccuvaadu vaidyuDu
neppuDu neDa thegaka paaru naerunu dvijuDun
coppaDina yuura nunDumu
coppaDakunnaTTi yuuru sorakumu sumatee !

appicchu vaaDu: There are banks in both the cities. On this count they
seem to come out even.

vaidyDu : Both the places have good medical colleges. They have
reputed doctors too.

Eru: Hmm.. Water source. I don't know where GNT gets its water from.
Must be from a Krishna Canal. On this account, KakinaDa seems to fare
better. I was told that there are no water shortages. And, there is a
beach too!!

dvijuDu: Let's loosely reinterpret this archaic expression as tutorial
colleges. Or, even colleges. Guntur has more than its fair share.
Kakinada may have its JNTU, but Guntur has its RVR&JCOP college :-).
And, Guntur has a tutorial college one a street. In this category,
Guntur seems to do well.

In the end, it all depends on where your spouse wants to settledown. If
you happen to be the spouse [It seems to be symmetric relation!!],
then you probably break the tie depending on where you have a place to
live!!

Some unsubstantiated, arbirtrary comments: Kakinada had the most
famous poets of AP. And, Rajahmundry, I was told, has the most
beautiful women. To be impartial, I also was told Vijayawada has the
most handsome men.

Me?? I will take Sowpadu, [a place 5 miles from vangipuram] anyday.
Rama

PS: Can anybody in Purdue who is willing to give me info on
accommodations and living costs etc. send me their e-mail address?
[Actually this is the real posting I want to make, the above is the
real PS :-)]

kaki unnanduka?

Here is my $0.02. The best city shouldbe hyderabad, because, it is my home
town and the second best should be Guntur, because I was born there.

End of discussion :-)

right on the money. actually, one my friends theorizes that all great

Now, that the "authorities" have spelt out the "best" ooru, guys like me are
next.

I would give anything to "stay" in guntur. Well, to be more precise,
it will have to be brodipet only, having seen the "comparitively"
"fluid" pETaas around it -- example arunDelpet and a littel far away is
the kottapETa.

Nothing has changed much in the broDipet that I know as good as the back
of my palm. Save one sore-view of a big high-rise which goes by the name
of "Mayur apartments", fully surrounded by guDisalu.

The mooing of innumerable buffaloes and the "unchanging demography" of
an area of about 2 km radius, wherein, everyone has been living there
since my memory started recording well.

My ammamma says that when they decided to build a home there, people
said -- "anta ooru baiTa endukanDii ? " -- now its in the center of
gunTur, in a way !! Ofcourse, anything "ancient" (like ariTaakulu or
istarulu or visinikarralu) are available right in front of our door
step.

Every "koTTu" is nothing but a tin box, manned (actually womaned)
by a lady with whom (to use an ameican phrase) we are on a first-name
basis :-) since "ancient history" (exaggerating)..

Newspapers are available only after a 10-minute trek to the 4-14
cross-roads. Anything that is more "modern" like photo dukaaNam,
large-scale fancy-n-kangan, etc.. are all way near the "old=Sankarvilas"

(Digression : I miss Sankar vilas chutney's which I am sure were as
famous as guntur kaaram -- I still cant believe the proprieter had
to sell it as he was not making enough money ! He moved far away.)

But then again, like ramarao gaaru mentioned, "I will take" vuyyuuru
instead of gunTur, inspite all of the above...

nothing beats a palle. nothing even comes close...

(vuyyuuru is the now-a-town-but-was-a-village where the KCP sugar factory is !)

Seetamraju Udaya Bhaskar Sarma
(email : seetam @ ece7 . eng . wayne . edu)

P.S : My best momories are all "shot-at-location" (to use a film phrase)
in vuyyuru... (Someday, when net trafic is low, I shall bother
you with the cheruku season memories of mine !! The huge- huge-
huge- huge- huge- huge- huge- huge- huge- huge- huge- lines
of cheruku baLLu (now replaced by lorries) etc......... )

hi there,

VIJAYAWADA is definitely a good place to live, as it has qualities
of both a big city and a township.
