A common proverb in Tamil and Telugu?

Though I don't know Telugu, I understand from the context
that this proverb means
It takes a thorn to take a thorn.
Interestingly, there is a similar proverb in Tamil namely
muLLai muLLaal thaan edukka vEndum
meaning the same. This seems to be a common proverb in Tamil and
Telugu.

The meaning is the same as in Telugu and Tamil proverb-equivalents.
I dont't want to take a standing on the origin of these proverbs.

Sometimes it makes me wonder what would have happened to SCIT if not

Let me pick some nits!
It should rather be "kantakEnaiva kantakam". That extra gap between "kantakE"
and "naiva" changes the meaning!
It is "kantakEna + Eva kantakam", with the meanings of individual words being
kantakEna = with thorn
Eva = only (operating on the noun _before_ it)
kantakam = thorn
[i.e., thorn only with thorn]
OTOH, what you wrote ("kantakE naiva kantakam") is
kantakE = in thorn
na = not
Eva = only (operating on the noun _before_ it)
kantakam = thorn
[i.e., thorn not only in thorn]
which is clearly not right.
I would'nt have cared to make this silly and pedantic correction if you didn't
claim in an old article, "FIRST, YOU SHOULD HAVE EXCELLENT COMMAND OVER ALL THE
3 LANGUAGES! SECOND, YOU SHOULD HAVE INTELLECTUAL ABILITY."
No offense, keep up your nice job of posting poems and their translations.

1) Thank you very much for the correction.
I intentionally separated "kantakEnaiva" (as you wrote) into
"kanthake + Naiva" in my original bulletin to ensure the readers
easy reading and clarity.
2) I don't know the Transliteration Schemes that are routinely followed
and they are cumbersome.
3) An ordinary reader out there does not want to break his head while
reading the transliterated text in order to get the message.
4) I did not claim that I am a pundit of all 3 languages.
Please remember something very important.
I like what I do subscribe to the net...something intellectual
(probably this is too costly of a word that I often use).
Some immature individual comes on and makes an offensive comment
which causes a typhoon in my temporal cortex, I can not handle it.
I could not ignore it then. Now if it happens.....I will ignore
those rubbish statements about my work. I am growing up sir!
5) I don't understand why is there a lot of leg-pulling existing on our
Tel(ugu)net.

But separating those words changes the meaning from "thorn only with thorn"
to "thorn not only in thorn". Sanskrit is a tricky language. Just an extra space
can change the meaning totally.
If you mean a "sandhi" by "+", it is "kanthakena + Eva" and not what you wrote.

I didn't say anything about your transliteration. I just pointed out that that
extra space changed the meaning totally. One has to be careful with Sanskrit.
