On Butchibabu and Gopichand:

When I stood first in my 6th standard, I was presented a
book of short stories by Gopichand. Atleast for 3-4 years,
I though that the name of the book was "Gopichand."

Thanks to my ZP High School Vijayawada, where excellent Telugu
novels were presented to students who scored well in exams.
Tagore, Sarat, Gopichand, Buthibabu etc...

ON YV Rao continuing the thread of Sreenivas:

YV Rao married Rukmini. Lakshmi of Julie fame is their daughter.
Aishwarya of (Brahma fame is Lakshmi's daughter.

And on Sri Vijaya Raghava Rao.

I met Sri VijayaRaghava Rao at Delhi and had a chat with him for 10
minutes. One thing I observed in ALL these celebrities is their
simpllicity and "Tejassu" in their face. He rendered music
direction for some more Hindi films. Cant remember off hand.
He was with films division giving music for INR (Indian News
Reviews) popular when there was no TV and other documentatries.
AIR Vividh Bharathi broadcasts a program at 07:30 hrs everyday
called "Sangeeth Sarita." Sri Vijaya Raghava Rao used to
present this programme for some 10 days in an year with
PURE Telugu accent Hindi.

Here is some information on Y V Rao from the series of brief sketches I have
been writing/compiling on Telugu film directors of yester years, in
collabaration with Madan Mohan Parigi, for Telugu film server (set up and
maintained by Srikanth).

5. Yaragudipati Varadaa Rao (popularly known as Y. V. Rao) 1903-1973:

A true all-rounder, who did not confine to Telugu, his mother tongue, film
making. Born in Nellore, he started his medical studies in Madras, before
breaking his studies and entereing the film field. In 1925 he went to Bombay
and acted in Lakshmi Pictures and Ardeshir Irani's Royal Art studio before
returning to Madras and joining General Pictures Corp. (GPC), formed and
lead by two stalwarts of south Indian cinema; A Narayanan and
Raghupati Prakash. After acting in GPC's silents; garuDa garvabhangam,
gajEndra mOksham, King bhOj etc. between 1929 and 1931, mostly under
Prakash's direction, he shifted to Kolhapur and later to Calcutta. He formed
his own Jagadish Films banner and the first major hit under his direction was
the reformist "maLLee peLLi", touching the sensitive topic of widow marriages
('39). ViSwamOhini-40, satyabhaama-42, and his best-known "tahaseeldaar"-44
followed. In viSwamOhini (satirising the film industry) and tahaseeldaar
(on the westernisation mania/phobia among low-level working people of those
days) he showed his skills in dealing serious issues in a humerous/lighter
manner.

Acting is in his family. Married to known actress Rukmini. Daughter Lakshmi
and grand daughter Aishwarya also made a name.

The only film maker (of early days) to work in seven major langauges; Telugu,
Tamil, kannaDa, Hindi, Marathi, konkaNi etc. First kannaDa talkie direction
credit goes to him. Through his multi-lingual films created a cultural-hybrid.

Contd. in the field till mid-60s involved in making of maanavati ('52),
SreekRshNa gaaraDi ('58) in Telugu. Acted in all his films until 1950!!!
