Dogmatic?
For Argument sake only......Like many other baseless and topless
articles (arguments-dogamtic, empty, gaseous), I decided to
write this essay.
Dr. Kumar Vadparty! I know you don't like Vemana being analyzed
as I did. I also know that a lot of netters may not like the
way I treated Vemana. I have nothing against Vemana. Just a
few items, interesting in Vemana's poetry, have been picked up.
Something crazy, nasty, and foolish to do occassionally - to
keep up with SCITatitude.

Vemana could say anything he wanted. That was philosophy (some
educated guys think). That was wisdom (some degree-holders
think). That was yogi's advice (some computer scientists
think). Helloooooooo! Your opinion is not mine. If you think
so, you should get out of that. No two persons look a like or
think a like or do a like!

Like that guy on the net, I have a tendency to go tangentially
(as my guruji Dr. Vemuri said). Some times writing nonsense
tangentially is a value-added feature - people get bored and
think that the writer is a genius.

You think Sri Sri's poetry is pornography!
Wait and see what our greatest poet Vemanaji wrote - full of
hatred towards women, brahmins, relegions - what not.

At places, Vemaji did not hesitate to equate all women with
prostitutes. What was wrong with that guy (poet, philosopher,
yogi, brahmin, and friend as one wise man calls)? Some of
Vemana's poems are full of pornographic descriptions (some are
furnished below). What did the puritans think those days of
Vemana? Until Brown dug out Vemana, he was not known at all.
Hellooo! That English man liked our Telugu poet and let us all
step on the bandwagon.

VEMANA'S POESY OF PORNOGRAPHY

Talk about Sri Sri's poesy of pornography. There is one occassion where
Srirangam used porno words i.e. in his poem entitled "adhiva'stavikula
pravESam". Would you like to read the whole piece. Here it is:
Those who have n't read Sri Sri or hate Sri Sri should have a Telugu

The line marked by * is the only one which has a word that is
supposedly unacceptable by wise, great, and learned souls who call
all other low-caste poverty-sriken Indian women "prostitutes". If
someone calls low-caste poverty-striken Indian women "prostitutes",
they should control their emotions calling Sri Sri's poetry, the
poetry of emotional pornography. One has to be clean or cleansed
before calling someone dirty. Hinduism teaches us to analyze one's
self first. The Adiseshu sleeps but his hood looks at himself
only. What is the inner meaning behind it? Even a mighty snake like
Adiseshu tries to analyze himself. Look inwardly but not outwardly.
Try to find your own faults not others'. We are Hindus and our
Hinduism is only to be bragged in front of non-Hindus. Any way, Sri
Sri was awarded the Indian Sahitya Academy award for his KaDgasRushTi
and this "adhiva'stavikula pravESam" was a highlight (for his Poesy
of Pornography as one of our wise, learned, and great scholars says).

Vemana was a poet who followed Camdassu and wrote
some masterpieces in Telugu (Classical) literature. The language is
not pedantic but can be easily understood by the pa'maruDu. Vemana
spoke truth but the absolute Truth based on the condition of the then
society. At places, Vemana gave his advices to the poor souls who
live unpious life. With reference to context, Vemana's poems are
still applicable. Sri Sri had chosen a different route but the
philosophy was the same as that of Vemana. The social conditions
during Sri Sri's times were different from Vemana's but the same
genes of mortal men were driving the social wheel. A poet feels that
he has the responsibility to awaken the mentally half-dead people.
Vemana did write his poetry for that cause. Sri Sri contributed his
poetry for the same cause. The poetry, in whatever style it may be
written, is only for the literates and intelligentia. Writers play a
major role to rejuvinate the moral courage of certain fraction of a
society while the society is decomposing and degrading. With that
view in mind, the writers (poets) can only satisfy a few people and
can aggravate some, who are the powerful, rich, strong, and morally
filthy.

Several pieces of Vemana's poetry can be called
poesy of pornography. Vemana was explicit while describing women.
Vemana hated the opposite sex. Sri Sri never did what Vemana did to
our women in his writings. (I don't say Vemana was not a great poet.
I am trying to show how Vemana depicted our women. He is perceived
as a great poet.) The following are some examples:

The male sex is always perfect.
Everything is wrong with the female sex.
That is it. That is what Vemana says.

viSwada'Bira'ma vinuravEma

(mEni merugu, naDaka sogasu, vamka koppu kala

Is n't there a different (indirect) way of
describing the voluptuous nature of a woman?
Vemana might have known it. After all he was a
famous poet! Is this not pornographic material in
Vemana's poetry?

ja'mdratODi pomdu ca'vunakEyagu

Well! Let us revisit Sri Sri. Exploitation of
low-class women in Indian society was prevalent
during Vemana's times. Look at what Vemana said in
his poem (#7) - da'sida'ni pomdu (in clear
pornographic vocabulary)! Those days landlords used
to make sexual advances towards their maid servents.
Vemana was the only one who could speak up against
those autorocities. Go ahead. Let us call Vemana
an emotional poet who preached pornography of
emotionalis (oops! It is poesy of pornography my
dear wiseman!). If Vemana says it in "a'Taveladi"
style, some conservatives (psuedo) like it because
of the literary merit. But when Sri Sri says that
rich exploit the poor, it is emotional poetry. What
a behavioral adaptation. Is this conditioned
behavior?

--Another example for 100% pornographic vocabulary
in Vemana's poetry.

Well! Another masterpiece of Vemana with explicit
nature of pornographic vocabulary. This is not
acceptable. There may be some truth in what he
said. Is n't there a modest way of conveying the
message across? Vemana could not have a different
way but being rude and crude here. This is 100%
pornography. Show it to any one who does not know
Telugu and tell him or her the true translation of
it. Then examine that person's reaction. Is this
acceptable? Yes! One may argue that Vemana wrote
this in "a'Taveladi style" and I love it for its
literary style. Please don't be a weather cock.
Examine case by case. Here, Vemana, explicitly used
crude language. But, he was perceived as a great
poet by majority. People say that they love
classical music - just to bunch themselves together
with the top-class people.

Well said Wema! Again! Vemana picutres a women as
a sex-machine. He had gone down to the bottom of
his intellectual faculties - the bottom of the
dustbin of his mind and created some senseless poems
which ruin the beauty of his poetry i.e the addition
of pornographic tincture. The bottom line is that
this Vemana character, for some reason or the other,
hated women (the opposite sex). He started
preaching against women. In Vemana's opinion women
seduce men and that is their job. (If Vemana were a
Sanyasi, he would not dare to hate his fellow
beings. After all Vemana had a mother. His
schizophrenic petic mind at some places praises
parents, especially mother. Vemana wrote poems on
things he hated during his times in the society.
Sri Sri did the same thing. In actuality, Vemana
can be regarded as the FIRST ABHYUDAYAKAVI of Telugu
literature. The only difference between Vemana and
Sri Sri is, Veman followed Chandassu and used
pornographic vocabulary liberally, and Sri Sri did
not do those.

11) cakkeRa kalipi tinamga'
mukkina tavuDaina lessa mOhamu kadura
nvekkuDu ba'nisayainan
makkuva ganu divyaBa'ma mahilO vEma'

(cakkera kalipinacO mukkina tauDu kooDa ruciga'
numDunaTlu mOhamu kalginacO da'siyu divya striivale
ka'navaccunu.)

Vemana encountered the da'si exploitation again in
the then Andhra society. Again he reiterated that
the landlords make use of their da'sis for sexual
pleasures. The meaning of the poem is embedded with
comparison between da'si women with divya women.
Look at this poem now. He shouts against the
autroceous behavior of the strong towards weaker
sections, especiall weaker women. This can be
interpreted differently by jackals in sheep's skin.
Interpretation states the kind of mental makeup.
That is individual's judgement call.

12) kacamu kakshyambu nOrunu ganulu vEma
na'Biyanu ba'humoolambu na'tikepuDu
nOrvadaganaTTi gavulutO noppucumDu
nimtakE yEla nimtipai Bra'mti vEma.

(narulu mOhamu cemdi yuvatula kacakuca'dulanu

No! No!! No! Not acceptable is the above poem.
This is absolute pornography. This one destroys the
entire flavor of his poetry. Vemana not only hated
the mental makeup of women but hated the physical
nature of women. Vemana had gone to the detritus of
his ugly mind, imagination, and philosophy. A
sanyasi always preaches for the betterment of the
society. A sanyasi never bifurcates a society.
Vemana created a clear demarkation between the two
sexes in the human society. In order to achieve
mental satisfaction, he had to use the worst of his
experiences and imaginations. Is this not
pornography? The worst of worst pornography Vemana
created in the name of teaching the mortal man. He
had extended his hatred towards the anatomy of
women, a sanyasi-poet can never think of. This poem
destroyed Vemana's poetry into pieces. If one
examines Sri Sri, one could discover that Sri Sri
never used such vocabulary to depict women in our
societies.

13) kamDa lemukalu netturu galigi tanuvu
mootra malamulatO numDu muTTara'ka
ka'yajuni ba'Namamca'na kallajeDunu
a'Saba'peDi vidhamunu narayu vEma.

(kamDalu, emukalu, raktamu, malamootramulu

In Vemana's dictionary (as understood from the above
poem), a woman's body is a biological entity only
that is seductive but also gruesome. Is this the
way a sanyasi-poet like Vemana honors our women?
If one reads these poems written by Vemana, one will
relinquish all the respect toward Vemana (if that
person hates pornograpic vocabulary); inspite of all
that, Vemana is regarded as one of the best poets in
Telugu literature (ignoring those composed by
Pseudovemanas). When one goes to the rose garden in
full bloom, that individual does not go after thorns

I have only one thing to say: Researchers claim that only about 15-25% of
Vemana padyaalu were originally written by Vemana. Since his style is so
lucid, it is easy to copy. There is a lot of controversy as to which are
original and which are not.

I just want nettors and Sri PALANA gaaru (I have no doubt that Palana
gaaru knows about this) to keep that in mind.
