A lady from my village did her Ph.D. on this subject under Acharya
Donappa. She also wrote a book based on her thesis which I saw in
Novodaya, Guntur for Rs. 75 in 1987. I couldn't afford it then :-)

Some related information about this topic:

Last time, when I was in India, I saw
(in "kommaraaju lakshmanraaju vig~nana sarvasvamu
(a library beside AMS and opposite to Osm. Eng. College)"
a thesis submitted to Telugu Univ. exactly on
this topic :- "telugu vaari inTi pErlu". There are
some interesting information about many "inTi pErlu",
and he could come out with some reasoning of very obscure
names.

This reminds me of this funny (I think!!) joke my mother used to tell.
The following conversation was overheard:

1st guy :- Mee inti peru emitandi?
2nd guy :- Gundu vaaru, mari mee inti peru emito?
1st guy :- Mee pai vallam lendi!!
2nd guy :- Ante??
1st guy :- Memu "pilakaa" vallam lendi. :)

Padma
PS: Pilakaa varu, gundu vaaru kshaminchandi. :)
