P.S: Not to flame but I feel kind of let down that Ms. Kamala A. may(!!) only be a pen
name. I haven't seen much of this bboard but whatever little I have seen, tells me that there are very few women(count < 2) who contribute to this bboard.

<<Old parents with a piece of land in Hyderbad which is occupied

You have to stand up for your rights, whether you are in
US or elsewhere. No amount of whining and righteous
assertions can give you what you must deserve and work
to get.
Unfortunately, for your parents, they are up against
Goons who will not hesitate to kill. They can either
shut up and take the $100 offered and go on with their
lives; or stand up for what they think is right and
fight it out: you don't need police permission to
remove illegal construction.
Unfortunately, in a society where goons will not
let you live unless you are prepared to die for
your rights, that is what one must do. Do not confuse
norms of civil behavior between east and west, in
every society one has to have the courage to take
risks if the rule of law is to be obeyed in practice.
I am sorry if the message appears rude or unhelpful
but one has to first acknowledge the real problem
before solving it.
Good luck.

This reminds me about the same kind of incident that happened when i
was in Hyderabad in Malakpet (near T.V. tower). I was in one of my
friends place. Somebody came there with the coolies and started
constructing the fence for the plot next to my friends house.
He (my friend) was surprised to see those new faces. He knew that
they are not the owners of that plot. He called the owner immediately
(by phone, he (the owner) was lucky to give his number). The owner
talked to those new guys and found out that they are none other than
chelas of the MIM corporator (keep guesssing the name). They were
arguing that the plot is theirs even when the owner have the documents.
The owner got hold of the local corporator. Somehow the issue was
settled behind the scenes. Don't know the details.
In that same street one of the plots was occupied before by the same
people. In this case, owner was unsuccessful in getting back his plot.
Guys Guys, don't come to the conclusion that only MIM's do this. In
the same locality, it seems the MIM guys thought of occupying one plot
and started the fence. On the same night, the RSS guys came and
installed the Ganesh idol. Now it became a place to worship !!!
Funny, isn't it. Sometimes, i feel pity on those people who tries
to cash the sentiments of the people. Hey, you can say, who cares ,
that's the way life goes. Well for me, it is a big ??????????????

PS: I am sure about the first two incidents because it happened in
front of me. I heard about the third incident.

Sir,
sometime back somebody asked me "what is the easiest thing one can do".
Do you know what it is, FREE ADVICE. Sorry to hurt your feelings.
But before telling, did you realize what you will you do if you were
in her situation. I DON'T think you will do what you were saying.
The first thing i doubt about your advise is
posting anonymously. Though, that is not the main reason, looks like
from your statements you realized about the outside world but still
making such statements is not probably a good advice. IDEALLY,
what you said is perfectly good (for movies). Well, you can say
can't you see Khairnar et al coming on to the streets to fight the
injustice. How many people have the guts to face that situation.
I think you know the security he got right now.
If i were in that situation, i don't know what i would have done.
But right now, what i can think of is gambling with the politicians.
Yes, catch hold of the opposition leader (or some influential guy from
the opp. party). Definitely, the opp. leader is no way interested in
us. But i think he will help at least to attack the other politicians.
I am not sure how good it is (due to lack of knowledge about the
politics). May be some netters who had contacts with political parties
can suggest what can be done in that situation.

Yes, this kind of outrageous activities are prevailing all over India.
I beleive that the only solution is to fight for election reform, so that
no goonda can context in election. This is really sick.
I guess changes should come from the root level. No matter what we did
before, we still produced goondas in all the parties, even BJP and Communists.
If you try to do anything personal, they dont even hesitate to kill and escape.
Police(including some IPS officers) are just puppets in the hands of so called
rotten politicians. I think we should unite, abolish caste based politics
and go in a large scale towards reforms.
I dont know what to advice you at this time.

My father had a plot near bus stop of Venkataraman colony, Khairatabad.
>Mr. P. Janardhan Reddy and his goonda friends have occupied the property( I mean they built a compund wall and a little building of some kind inside) and refuse to move.
Same with our site. Except that it was Gaffar (Zilani) a chamcha of MIM leader
Sultan Salauddin Owaisi.
>Ofcourse they have no legal documents and yes we have every legal document to prove
Same.
>My parents being old don't know what to do and have been trying to negotiate(read beg him to buy the site from them - on their knees). At one point in time he offered about
My parents went to court, talked to neighbors, talked to some politicians,
and also sent middle men to talk with Gaffar.
>Rs. 100 per sq yd(??) when the going price is/was around 900. We need police permission
>to break the walls on our own property and the Police DIG says he can't do anything without the minister's permission. So the saga goes on. Can somebody tell me how one handles situations like this? I've been out of India for nearly 9 years and these
>attrocities seem to be getting only worse - no better.
You have a better deal. My parents were offered nothing.a Being out of Inida or
being in India does not matter. All that matters is do you have manpower ie.
goondas with you or do you have stinking black money that you dont care for.
If neither, then you have no choice. Sorry to dishearten you but
that is my experience. Ofcourse my parents evaluated the pros and cons of
fighting with some messy guys and decided to keep quiet. They did. And I used
the original documents to clean my tongue.

First: I was expressing outrage that such things happen
Second: I wanted to share my experience with other people who may have gone through similar situations and thereby learn of constructive ways to deal with my current problem.
Judging by responses I have seen so far, I seem to have achieved my goals. I thank all those people who have related their stories. What I'm trying to find out is ways and means to tackle the situation. If others can relate to me what worked for them in a similar situation, I would greatly appreciate their responses. It is easy for all of us to say "You have to stand up for your rights". The question is what are all the possible ways of doing so !!!! Has anybody tackled it legally through the court? Has an
ybody ever had any success selling off such a site to a third party? The biggest problem we face is the goodaism behind all this and prospective buyers will not come anywhere close to it due to fear.
Thanks once again
Usha
in your reply to Akasa Ramanna,
>Anyway what is your ...... won't vote.
I am not sure whether you are supporting Caste based Politics or not.
We can not blame people. They always follow what leaders preach. If the
leaders preach principles, they follow principles. If the leaders preach
CASTE and GOONDAISM, at least more than half follow the same. People are o.k.
Only the problem is with the Leadership. Casteism and Goondaism serve only
temporary purposes. In the long run, only Principle and Service based politics
make the country better. We need only Principle and Service based Politics
and POLITICIANS, but NOT Caste and GOONDAISM based Politics and Politicians.

I disagree.
>leaders preach principles, they follow principles. If the leaders preach
>CASTE and GOONDAISM, at least more than half follow the same. People are o.k.
People are not O.K., unfortunately. If the problem is only with the politicians
then it is not as bad. But I believe that the caste system is ingrained in
the minds and hearts of most of telugus.
>Only the problem is with the Leadership. Casteism and Goondaism serve only

Casteism has been serving rather well for the past thousand or more years.

I agree but aren't we a little naive?

Oh man, if casteism is in people(ordinary public), it will not harm much and
it is likely to fade away, and furthermore it will only prevail for marriages and
some social activities.
But if casteism is in Politicians and small Goondas, then it causes disaster.
It increases among ordinary public, i.e it ripples through.
It is as simple as this, you dont need a PhD from Harvard to figure this out:
"If an ordinary engineer makes a mistake it costs the company, may be $100000.00
but if the manager makes a mistake, it can cost many jobs, and people will be
on the streets, looking for jobs."
