Basha lo ' alankaramula ' viluva alankaramane perulonae undi!

Alankaramulalo SABDA mariyu ARDHA alankaramulani rendu taragatulu.

I shall give you two alankaras every time, with examples from the most
remembered contemporary literature - Cinima patalu.
1.
Palukarinchitene uliki uliki padatavu
Ninu premiste anchestavu ?
Manasu penaveste anchestavu ? ( C.N.R - Jamindar )

If this is like this ( Palukarinchitene) - what about the other ( Ninu
premiste) - this logic is called : Kaimootika Nyaam

This is called ARDHAPATTI alankaram ( ARDHA ).

2. Pittamansu pisarantaina
Prapanchamanta Dagundi ( dasarathi* - Moogamanasulu )

To imply that a big thing is in a small thing - ADHIKA alankaram ( ARDHA
)

* This star mark here is to indicate to our friend that the THA here is
used properlyin Dasharathi.

If only every one appreciates these important things that are developed
over a long period of time in all languges and use them where ever it is
appropriate and appeciate whenever they are used, I am sure individuals are
looked at as the ones walking with a beauty ( in case the individual is a
boy ) and handsome fellow ( in case the individual is a girl) rather than a
simple skeleton called language!

< A few last names are very representative of the caste they belong to.
< For example, many vysyas I have seen have an ending of "setti" for
< their last names, many kshatriyas have "raju" in the last names. Note
< that a few Brahmin families too have "raju" in their last names -
< for example, that of a frequent contributor to this net, seetamraju.
< I can almost confidently say that he must be a "niyogi" brahmin based
< on this information. A section of Brahmins opted out of study of vedas
< and choose instead to assist the kings in political matters; quite a
< few of such people served as ministers in the courts of many kings.
< Henceforth they were known as "niyogi"s (meaning, "employed"). Some
< retained their traditional occupation of the study of vedas, and were
< henceforth known as "vaidika" brahmins.
Please avoid mentioning or bringing caste into our
telugu digest. Already in almost all the major towns and cities
all over the U.S. telugu people are divided based on their castes.
Telugu organization is already split at the national level. Let us
stay united and stick to the telugu net. It is my sicere and humble
request. Thank you.

A better example to one and all, is the failure of the Lamhe movie,
which has been hailed as an excellent movei by the intellectuals
and `educated', but was a total disaster...

In the chanti movie, I am seeing the beginning of the separation of

The movie that the janata likes is what makes that movie a hit...

They have rejected the pontification of the urbanized middle-class
and their moral lessons. Movies are supposed to be a medium of education
but I think with regard to movie watchers, it is just a medium of
awareness. They watch movies to become aware of a whole lot of things.
but they will reject what is not acceptable to them -- this is just
a contradiction to the `movies are educating' philosophy, as
education inherently means change of style (of living/thinking etc...)

The rural-urban divide grows more day by day....

Sure, my earlier posting would have created some
interest in the musically inclined readers to contribute
and help others learn and enjoy the film songs more
and also learn to identify the raagams.

Here are some more songs and raagams:

Film Song Raagam

Siri Siri Muvva - Jhummandi Naadam Revati
Amara Deepam Naa Jeevana Sandhya Samayamlo Khamas
Andala Ramudu Paluke Bangaara Maaye Raa Ananda Bhairavi
Saagara Sangamam Ela, Nee Daya Radu (Manju Bhargavi) Athana
Prema Lekhalu Idi Teeyani Vennela Reyi Kalyani

As promised, I shall keep compiling the readers'
contributions and shall post them on the net
or to readers on request.

If you know that the song Naa Jeevana Sandhya Samayam Lo
is based on the raagam Khamas, it would be easy
to find out that the song "Madhumaasa Velalo, Marumalle Totalo,
Manasaina Chinnadi, Ledayane" from "Andame Anandam (Jayaprada,
Ranganath, Singeetam Doondy banner 1976-77) is also based on
Raag Khamas.

Film songs would also start looking (hearing !) interesting !!!

I desperately need some desi company for them for about a week after 14th
sep. I will be with them for couple of days showing them around. I have
already arranged the accomdation for them for their stay in washington D.C.

The main problem is they can speak only Hindi and Telugu. If any family out

Hi folks,
I am personally unable to understand why so many discussions are going
on in the recent digests about the last names issue.
I think it is NOT worth that much discusion in this particular net.
If at all people want to discuss about such things so extensively ,ask them to
do so in some soc.culture.india or at some other place.

People here go thru the digests with full enthusiasm, expecting good
articles, old film songs, the history of our great MOTHERLAND
(MATHRUBHOOMI), etc.......

So would it be nice if we stop this last names issue at this stage
rather than prolonging it?

From: Capt Madhu <ma...@qcav01.enet.dec.com>

Songs from the film "Manjeera Nadam" (yet to be released)
are melodious. This film is directed by Kondamudi
Ramachandra Murthi.

There is a song of a Gopika (I think it is by Khestrayya-
a Padamu) who is a "Baalinta" with an infant requesting
Krishna not to call her during that time.

Nijamaina Srungaram ee paatalo undi. Listen and enjoy.

One of the best of Chitra and KV Mahadevan !!

(This tune and music has semblances with the famous song from
"Muthyala Muggu - Entati Rasikudavo, telisera" which is an
equally romantic song.)

Anybody interested in the lyrics of these songs ?

If people among net has no objections, as the
"Srungara Rasam" Palu is more, some time, I shall post them.

There is one more parody song in Manjeera Nadam
"Kalavaari koothuraa, kaliki Kamakshi,...Kalalaku kanaachi"
by Suseela and SP Balu.

for an apology. My usage of words WAS capable of causing confusion. Unlike
some people, I have liked discussions on this topic. Quite naturally, tastes

go on to the next one. It probably would not be right for a person to say
that topics he dislikes should not be discussed.

About Popular Science Books in Telugu:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Somebody has raised a query about books dealing with popular science
in Telugu. There a good number of books.
A sample of the books I recollect:
Viswa Rapam - Nanduri Rammohan Rao (Editor, Andhra Jyoti)
Viswa Darsasam - ditto [this is about philosohpers]
Naravatharam ditto [more incfluenced by Darwin]
Apart from these Dr Mahidhara Nalini Mohan has written aplenty of
books for the general reader on science.
Visalandra Publications distributes a good number of russian
books translated to Teligu.
About writers:
~~~~~~~~~~~~

I observed somebody quoting Yandamuri... as the greatest writer
of this decade etc... etc...

I would like to say a few words- absolutely not meant for a
debate or discussion...

When we attribute some greatness let us be more objective. Let
us not go by the number of people who read novels or by the
number of fans he has etc. etc...

Let us not down-grade our own literature...

Dear Friends,

I have a concern about the time the banks (in India) take to
encash a Cashier's check (from USA).

I recently sent a cashier check ( in USD, pay to my sister in India)
to India. My Sister has been told to wait for about 30 days for the check to
be encashed. The bank where she presented this check Canara Bank, Bangalore,
where Foreign Department is right next to it.

I am surprised and a bit angry about such a delay in transfer of
funds. As you know, a cashier check is equivalent to REAL MONEY. So, i
expect a quicker money conversion & transfer. A similar experience with
Money Orders.

Finally, I wonder how much time it would take if I send a personal
check. Probably the same. So why lose little interest I might get by
taking a cashier check right away.

Did any of you had similar experience?? Do you have a better
idea for transfering money quicker?? What ever happend to me is not the
same with other banks??

Subject: Who is the editor?

Hi Friends,

Sometime back, I have seen some postings in the digest which say that
the scope of the Telugu digest is limited and some articles like Inti Perlu
should not discussed in this net and those things are related to some other
issues.

My point is who decides the scope? How can these people define the scope of
the net. We have an Editor who is supposed to take care of such issues. If
he thinks, some things should not be discussed in this Telugu digest, he
should indicate the same to the readers and posters. No other individual
has any moral right to comment on the facts which articles should be posted
in which net. If they do not like some postings, they can ignore them, or
criticise them, or just say that they do not like the postings. Even, they
can say that they would stop reading the digest if such type of postings
appear in the digest. In this case, they would be opposing with some of the
ideas of the digest scope for which the Editor is working.

Other than this, nobody except the Editor can define the scope of the net.

What is your valuable comments, Editor?

You should have given a reply to such postings, either explaining the scope
of the digest or by saying by mistake you have published such type of
postings. Then, everybody would know what is the scope of this digest.
Then, it would be upto the readers/posters to stop or to continue further.

---- JUBV Prasad

(Editor: There seems to be a lot of opinions about the role of the editor.
No your editor does not have any sledge hammer to dictate this open forum's
approach to topics. All I do is to bring some harmony in the discussions
and plead with all of us to contribute good articles! Some times
some articles may not be of quality! This happens, because one cannot
maintain absolute quality! I urge people to work towards quality articles
of interest to Telugu people and more importantly of interest to non-telugu
speaking people. That is why I would like transliterated text to be embedded
into English prose so that other people can also read those articles. Please
always note that we sell our culture to other people of our country. They
should appreciate our culture and see how Telugus contribute to
the totality of the Indian culture. ...kt)
