Who are the people called them as PILLAI in Kerala?
Are they all farmers by caste?
Are there any fisherman caste also in the name of PILLAI?

pillais are not SCs.

Pillais were henchmen of Travancore King. They were fighters. One set of
pillais were killed(Yettuvettil pillamar) by Marthanda Varma and their
house(YettuVeddu) was made a pond(PadmaTheertham) when they tried
hatch a plan to eliminate Marthanda Verma. So Most likely the
descendends of these pillai are still pillai. And then there is another
set of pillais in Tamil Nadu.I am not sure if they have any links
culturally.Mostly except for the surname they are different.

Pillis are Nayars by caste. Nayar is not an occupational caste, so
they are not all of any particular occupation.

> Are there any fisherman caste also in the name of PILLAI?

If there are fishermen with the name, they might be Nayars.

The surname Pillai is used by different castes, and there are even
Christians with names that have Pillai as the suffix (for example,
Chandapillai). Some in the Vellala community (they settled in Kerala
but by tradition they do not appear to be Malayalees) also use the
surname Pillai. Similarly some Tamil people have Pillai as the
surname. In Kerala Pillai is a subset of Nairs just as Kurup, Menon,
Panikkar etc are. Kurups were involved in the martial arts and Menons
were usually accountants and they are more common in the northern half
of Kerala. Pillais were also accountants and are equivalent to
Menons but they are common in southern Kerala.

the PILLAIs (also spelled as PILLAY) are from kerala as well as tamil
nadu!!! surprise!!! not all PILLAI/Ys are from kerala. some are from
TN. however, from what i understand, the malayalee PILLAIs are not
the same people as the TN people.

the tamil PILLAIs are a sub-sect of the VELLALAs (also spelled as
VALLALA) who are from the farming community. the vellala pillai are a
'forward caste'.

there are many types of VELLALAs from what i understand: mudaliers,
saiva pillais.

the NAIR PILLAI community are from kerala. they are a 'forward
caste'. like i mentioned, the NAIRs (also spelled as NAYAR) are not
related to the TN PILLAIs. from what i gather, they are a little
'higher' than the tamil PILLAIs.

Dhanraj Pillai is the captain of the cricket team, and he is a PILLAI
from Kerala (not sure if he's a nair or a not).

the tamil PILLAIs are indigenous to the south of tamil nadu (i think).
because of the close proximity of the tamil and mallu pillais, this
implies to me that the tamil PILLAIS and the mallu PILLAIs were one
and the same before they split.

the chief of the indian army is a PILLAI by caste, and his surname is
"padmanabhan". he's one bad ass. he's an amazing soldier who was
born in trivandrum.

finally, i think that there are many ethnic tamils who are tamil
PILLAIs living in the state of kerala in trivandrum. they'll speak
malayalam, but their ancient ancestors are tamil.

Pillais in Tamil Nadu are associated with caste of Vellala(land
owners). It would appear that this caste name is associated with more
diverse occupations in Kerala. In Sri Lankan Tamil areas we have
VeluPillai Prabhakaran who is not a Velalla but of a sea pirate
'caste' .It is significant that SL Tamils are said to share closer
ties culturally to Kerala than Tamil Nadu.

Anybody can do the job of killing like the Yettuvettil pillamar! This is
not giving any real historical background of PILLAIS!

Are these people belong to any Agrarian castes?

Vellalas are not the land owners but farmers! During the Vijaya Nagar and
British times these Vellala, who never had a history of fighting for the
land, had became land owners after showing their obedience to British and
VijayaNagar!

Hi,

PILLAI/PILLAY is an upper caste name used in both Kerala & Tamil Nadu. In Tamil Nadu, PILLAI/PILLAY is a caste name used by the upper caste Vellalar land lords and agriculture workers. In Kerala PILLAI/PILLAY is also a title carried by some upper caste Nair/Nayar families.

In the history of Kerala, when the whole of south India was TAMILAKAM it is mentioned that Vellalar families were brought into Kerala to help in administration work. many of these Vellalars came from Tirunelveli District, TN which shares a border with Kerala and to this day that district in Tamil Nadu has a high number of Vellalar PILLAI/PILLAY. These Vellalars who moved to Kerala eventually intermarried and assimilated into the various sub Nair/Nayar castes. Thus some of the Nairs/Nayars adopted the name PILLAI/PILLAY as a name and title. Also some of the Vellalars in Kerala didn't assimilate into the Nair/Nayar caste and retained their Vellalar identity and today they are members of the Kerala Vellalar Maha Samajam society.

There is an ancestral connection between the Vellalars of Tamil Nadu and with the Vellalars of Kerala and the Vellalars that assimilated into the Nair/Nayar communities. Some of their culture and home language may differ/change after hundreds of years but they originate from the same lineage. All these communities have similarities in that they are industrious in agriculture, business, learning and administration. Many notable writers from both Kerala and Tamil Nadu are PILLAI/PILLAY, and they have retained their social standing as Forward caste people.

A rehabilitation centre is a place where people with physical or mental disabilities can go to improve their condition. The staff at a rehabilitation centre will help the patients regain their strength and mobility. They will also teach them how to cope with their disability. The patients will be given a chance to socialize with other people at the centre. They will also be able to participate in activities that will help them mentally and emotionally.
