Has anyone heard of this person: Kadamattathu Kathanar,
a christian priest who was some kind of hero and
is honor at his own shrine in Sabriamala along with a muslim
saint and Ayyapan the main focus of the pilgramage to Sabriamala.

This should be a welcome diversion to the nonsense that seems
to continually get posted on the kerala NG's

Does anyone know about this figure, or the history
behind him? Please post to NG if you do, thanks?

Since you asked twice.

The three individuals revered at Sabarimala are: Ayyapan (Hindu),
Kadamattathu Kathanar (Christian), and Bavar (Muslim). They like lived
in the 9th century.

All I know about Kadamattathu Kathanar is that his real name was Fr.
Paulose and he was the first vicar of St. George church, Kadamattom near
Ernakulum (Syrian Christian Church, I think).

Interesting. Ayyappan was supposedly the prince of Pandalam. There was
supposedly once a Syrian Christian church at Nalickel (Chayal) near
Sabarimala. I would have thought it more likely to have been a Syrian
Christian priest from there (if the legend of the church's existence is
true).

This is the legend of Ayyappan being born of Shiva and Vishnu (in the
form of Mohini)

Thanks Pandora,
I'm surprised nobody knows the history behind this(myself
included), It seems like a prime example of south indian interreligious
harmony. I am really curious to know the events that transpired.
Thanks again Pandora.

I have a rather dim recollection of a play by a popular roving
theatre about Kadamattat~ Kattanar, involving a lot of magic, evil
spirits and the like. There was something about hobnobbing with the
supernatural being almost but not quite unlike (TM) forbidden and the
Kattanar supposedly learnt that the hard way. There's definitely an
interesting legend involved, hope someone remembers the details.

Bullshit. There is no shrine for any Kadamattathu Kathanar at Sabarimala.
This story is yet another attempt by CBCI to collect money out of Sabarimala
pilgims after they failed miserably with Nilakkal Church episode almost a
decade ago.

There is no need to hear about. All those who go to Sabarimala can see it.
There is no shrine at Sabarimala for any Kathanar. That's it.

Kadamittathu Achan (Kathanar) was considered a sorcerer and there was a
cult built around him. I knew one fellow who used to exorcise" evil
spirits" in the name of Kadamittathu Kathanar. Christians usually do not
associate with this cult. By the way what is this CBCI?

CBCI is Catholic Bishop Conference of India - an organisation working full
time to undermine India's place among world nations, an organisation
specialising in Goebbel's art of making untruth (mostly about Hindus) appear
true by repeating them many times (and planting stories like Kathanar's and
Nilakkal cross) and fully funded by the West (Rome) to 'harvest faith' in
India and Asia. The sad part is that they have venomous and unpatriotic
characters like John Dayal to help them out in their evil designs.
