CASE AGAINST JAYALALITA REOPENED FOR POST-TRIAL ARGUMENTS

Chennai, Jan 20 (PTI) - A special judge, trying former
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha and four others in
the 'Pleasant Stay Hotel' case, today reopened the case
for more arguments after he had fixed January 24 for
pronouncement of the final verdict.
Special judge-II V Radhakrishnan, who had concluded the
trial and arguments on January 12 and announced the date
of the judgement as January 24, today directed the
reopening of the arguments on some questions of law.
As a result, the judgement may not be delivered as
scheduled on the specified date.
The case relates to the grant of illegal exemption from
building rules allegedly to favour the promoters of a
hotel at Kodaikanal to put up a seven-storeyed building
in 1994, when Jayalalitha was Chief Minister and co-
accused T M Selvaganapathy was the Local Administration
Minister.
Others accused in the case are former Municipal
Administration Secretary H M Pandey, the hotel's
executive director Rakesh Mittal and its managing
director Palain Shanmugham.
