The movie you are refering to is "spandana".
It was directed by Srinivas. Probably he was the hero too.
Aparna Narang was the herione and I think she got an awrd
for this movie. I do not know if she has acted in any other
films.

AFAIK, Srinivas was working with ISRO.

The film had a vey nice song "enthA maruLayya idu enthA maruLu"
sung by SPB and written by a famous poet. ( GSS ? Adiga ??)

Yes. The movie was directed by Srinivas who was with ISRO. The song
"enthA maruLayya idu enthA maruLu" was sung by SPB, music by C Ashwath
and lyrics by Dr. NS Lakshminarayana Bhat
