Since alot of people brought this subject up. I might as well join in the
discussion.

What is the difference between a gf and a "closed" female friend (from male
perspective, of course)? Besides holding hand, kissing, hughing, etc....
I can't think of any other reasons. If this female friend is closed to you,
then you two can just talk about anything right?? (I guess) You two would
probably talk just about anything. In this respect, what's the difference
with a girlfriend??? Maybe the two of you always show up in pair, but that's
just how people look at you two. What makes a couple a couple???

Better organize my thought again before I start mumbling nonsense. Any of you
want to comment on this subject?

Wondering in San Francisco............

First of all, you have to distinguish the difference between HAVING SEX and
MAKING LOVE.

You are right. I believe that is the "major" but not the only reason.

Between bf and gf, there is something call "care" & "love" that may
not exist (in such an extend) between two "closed" friends.

Two people willing to love and commit to each other unconditionaly when
they are willing to sacrifice for one another. For example, if your
love one lost both kidneys, would you give one of your kidneys to her
(assume they are compatible)? If you have to think about that. Then I
don't think you love her that much.

Well....I think there is a difference between gf and a "closed" female
friend.....

At least you can say practically anything to a female friend, including
how you think about your gf.I don't think all of you will do this to
your own gf.... =)

So, would you tell me what is the difference??

Do you mean "HAVING SEX" is only animals' basic instinct but "MAKING LOVE" should have love
first and then sex??? How do you know that animals do not love their sex partners???

I remember one sentence from Mr. Hung (Hung Chee).

"Chee fai yu, yin chi yu chi lok?"
(You are not fish, how do you know the fish happy or not?)

Additional comments:

One guy from City Poly of HK told me that he refers to all his
"close" female friends as "SISTERS". I guess this is one more step
further than "close" or "best" friends.

I imagine this type of "SISTER" and "BROTHER" relationship is
quite common in HK. I was surprised to know that a female cousin all
the sudden has additional elder brothers.

Me and my (close) female friend and house-mate had a little discussion
in the past about the differences, and we concluded what a bf or gf has is
a permit to touch in most cases.

Yes, in some cases, you would give up all you have for your loved one, but
is this always the case? I certainly hasn't thought about giving up my
kidneys for anyone yet! Does this mean I don't love anyone? Hopefully
not!

As for being able to talk about anything with a close female friend (male
otherwise), I think it's true, I know this is not very good for the
relationship if you lie or hold back to your gf, but how many of us can
say they have never held back anything from the one they love? (Just to
keep them from being hurt!) But have said the same thing to someone
close, someone of the opposite gender?

Love is a funny thing...

Uh? What you are saying can work the other way round as well, for example,
you are able to talk about your other close female friend to your GF, just
as you are able to talk about your GF to your close friend. Therefore, it
is not a valid comment.

What is the one more step further than a close or best friend...I think
that is what the person who started off this e-mail wanted to ask. To what
extent can we call one a sister or a gf? Surely, after one has admitted to
being a sister, there is permission to develop deeper feelings. However,
with the knowledge that there is no blood relations whatsoever, these
feelings can then get out of hand for one party or another or both! If
both do have the same feelings then by all means 'go ahead', afterall,
this sister thingy is of no real barrier. But.....one has to realise that
by taking this step of taking a friend as a brother or a sister, could
mean that one is limiting himself the choice that he may well have in the
future, in considering that person a Gf or BF. Though you might take
care in who you choose as a sister (as you think that there is 'NO WAY'
that you will fall for her), hope you think again as feelings are not
certain.

Too many ideas....and confusing in some of them, as the person sitting
next to me is saying. Just expressing my 2 cents worth. No offence
intended towards those who have 'brothers' or 'sisters', as I too have a
few.

can't resist this thread. when one is in grade school, yeah, this kind
of childish plays is fun. but when one graduates from college, calls
each other brother or sister, and SLEEPS with each other. gimme a break!
this incestry thing isn't my favorite ...

one thing i have forgotten [credit goes to my friend EL]:
for men older than the grade school kids, "having sisters" is for the
loser men who are rejected by "sisters" for love. they would settle for
anything more intimate than "just friends." they simply can't accept
the fact and "fuck off," but are waiting for the come-back moment.

How can you give up your kidneyS? Is love only limited to bf gf? I know
a guy give one of his kidney to his father (a 60 years old man). Does it
mean that he does love his wife? Ha Ha. I hope that his wife doesn't
need his another kidney.
