Nothing but lies, you shameless liar. The picture is 5 years old. It
says so in the web page right below the picture.

The most useful evidence as to city location should be the two
pedicabs one of which has a registration plate. In all these years of
looking at photos from Tibet I have never come across such pedicabs.
Indeed in a hilly place such as Lhasa pedicabs wouldn't be that
practical way to get around. I don't recall seeing this style of
pedicab in Guangzhou or Beijing, especially with that frilly top. But
the url here does describe pedicabs in Lhasa (no photo)
http://en.tibettour.com.cn/transport/200402004430145940.htm

Photo the style of pedicabs Beijing is quite different.

The first thought was the photo is from Myanmar. I guess not as none
of the civillians wore a sarong and sandals and they look more warmly
dressed than the Burmese in this photo

I am somewhat familiar with PLA uniforms. There are lots of videos on
China's massive and impressive 1999 50th Anniversary Parade. Ranks
include the PLA army, navy, air force, civil defence, armed police
etc.

See also Wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_07
The color and style of the PLA uniforms are quite different from the
ones that say the PLA was posing as monks.
http://buddhism.kalachakranet.org/chinese-orchestrating-riots-tibet.htm

But here is a video from a 1984 parade where the PLA uniform does look
similar to the one in the "posing as monks" photo.

From WIKI http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tibet The CIA supported Tibetan
insurrection was between 1956 and 1959. CIA support lasted until
1972. I don't know what PLA uniforms looked like then except they
were generally sloppy and, at one time, did not have insignia. My
memory was that military rank insignia was restored when DXP came into
power in 1978.

In the balance the evidence points to the "posing as monks" photo as
being from a earlier era and certainly before the 1999 Parade
uniforms. None of the uniformed soldiers was wearing a monk's robe.
So what they were doing with them is a matter of conjecture. The
important point is that this is a photo dated from before 1999 for
certain and therefore has nothing to do with the present 2008 riots.

There are instigators, unfortunately. If only there is more live and
let live attitude... now, the vicious cycles of revenge will bound to
arise :-(

The supposed photo of PLA drssing as lamas has been debunked by
Chinese netters:

http://military.club.china.com/data/thread/1011/429/30/29/8_1.html

- The uniforms are props - no hats, some have stars on shoulder, some
don't, no one is wearing badges and armbands. Some are wearing white
socks. They stand around out of formation and bad postures like
civilians do.

- The winter uniform don't match its surroudnings. There are people
without even a light jackte. Tibet in spring is still heavy coat
season.

- These are extras on a movie set. From their shaved heads (not even
enlisted shave head) and gold and red garbs, these are *Panchen Lamas*
working as extras. Dalai monks wear all red garbs with gold tassle.

- The pedicab is pre-2005 style. 2-3 years ago tourism bureau
standardized the pedicab top in Tibet to reflect local falvor.

- It came from the back cover of 2003 TCHRD annual report. It was
misused even then.

Thank you. A job well done!

If the clothing belongs to the monks of Panchen Lama, then the photo
should be taken in QingHai province instead of Tibet.

I can't the credit, it's the Chinese netter who did it. They have
managed to track down the movie where the soldiers appeared.

To recount the events 1) some obscure UK tabloid blog said sh!t 2) all
the China haters jumped on it 3) someone circulated the photo a photo
from from 2003 TCHRD annual report as proof/support 4) Chinese netters
find clues in the photo

Now they have found the movie, it's titled "Hong He Gu"(Red River
Valley). The movie is about Tibet, shot in Tibet:

Here's the grass root discussion that led to the discovery:

Now, who's gonna tell HH that his people lied?

The Dalai Lama is coming to Seattle for the Seeds of Compassion
conference on April 11-15. The purpose of the conference is to nurture
kindness. Perhaps you can express your differences with him at that
time.

Here is your chance to organize a protest against the Dalai Lama,
Charles.

Why would I do a thing like that? I like HH, and I think he's getting
a raw deal from the Chinese government - very much like the raw deal
my government is giving the Native Americans.
