yaweh, kuv tseem to taub koj tsis meej thiab koj rov piav kom
meej me ntsis ntxim puas tau.

Raws kuv tau taub mas xws li zoo li no...

Yus (tus yog kwv tij thiab muam) hu yus tus tij laug, tus kwv
los puas tus nus tus poj niam cov nus ua DAB LAUM hos hu lawv
cov poj niam ua NIAM DAB LAUM. Tab sis hu yus tus, niam tij,
niam ntxawm, los puas tis nyab ntawm cov viv ncaus ua NIAM TAIS.
Qhov no yog hu cov neej tsa, niam tais yawm txiv los puas sab
txheeb ze ntawm tus poj niam .

Nyob hauv kwv tij, phog yawg tsev mas tus muam hu nws cov nus tej
poj niam ua TIS NYAB no xwb, cov nus ntawv txawm yuav hlob thiab
yau nws los xij. Tab sis yog yus yog tub no ces yus hu lawv ua
niam tij los puas niam ntxawm. Raws yus cov kwv tij kev hlob thiab
yau. Cov nyab los puas cov poj niam uas los sab raus los no ces lawm
hu nws tus txiv cov kwv tij ua TXIV LAUS los puas TXIV HLUAS tib yam
li nws hu nws tej viv ncaus cov txiv thiab.

Tab sis niaj hnub no peb ib co tsis hais yus yog tub los ntxhais
(kwv, tij los yog muam), peb cia li hu raws li tus tub hu (NIAM TIJ
los puas NIAM NTXAWM) no lawm xwb.

Kuv tsis paub tias puas yog DD, confuse tus TIS NYAB thiab NIAM DAB
LAUM lawm xwb. Nws yuav tsis txawv puas tsawg yog yuav ntxiv NIAM
TAIS rau DAB LAUM = NIAM TAIS DAB LAUS los puas hais luj luj ua
NIAM TAIS DAB. Tab sis ntxawm li cas los xij peem, yog peb ua zoo
mloog ces nws lub suab yeej tsis zoo mloog li, puas yog? Yog li, DD
koj thiaj pom tias muaj ib cov neeg tsis nyiam kom hu lawv li ntawd.

Qhov hu yus cov TIS NYAB ua NIAM TAIS DLAB no mas, DD kuv niam qhuav
hnov koj hais nov thiab xwb, ntshe kuv yuav tau mus noog ntxiv thiab.

tabsis qhov kuv nug yog....kuv xaav paub saib mej puas paub lus lug
'tais dlaab' nua yog leejtwg ti hab pum zoo le ho... vim ib cov tais
dlaab kw yog nkauj moobdlawb puas tsis nyam lus lug nua na...

I know one case, the sister-in-law got really mad at the sister for
calling her 'tais dlaab'. She thought that the sister was calling her
niag pojdab...Sounds funny but I am just wondering if there's another
term or a better word to help these youngster to not get offended...

Dejadust <deja...@my-deja.com> wrote:

The blue Hmong women call their sister-in-law "taisdlaab" because it
means a sister from the outside. "Tais," as we know it, refers to a
sister of a woman. "Dlaab", in this case, does not refer to the spirit
or ghost; it simply implies something or someone of the outside or
other side only. Thus, "taisdlaab" literally means "sister from the
outside." [Of course, there are some "taisdlaab" who are truly as bad
as the name "dlaab" suggests.]

Both the blue and white Hmong parents call their daughter-in-
law "nyaab" or "nyab," respectively and in the same manner, suggesting
that the woman "belongs to", "is a part of", etc., as in "tubnyab." I
am not sure anyone fully understands the origin of the word "tisnyab"
as called by the white Hmong women of their sister-in-law. I believe
the meaning of the word "tis" means an "extension" of an object
(person). Thus, "tisnyab" suggests the "extension of (brother)."

That was my analysis. Your comment is welcome.
