Aloha mai kakou,
Was saddened to read in yesterday's Star-Bulletin that Randy
Borden had passed away on Saturday, of colon cancer. For those who do not
remember, he and Jon Osorio were the Hawaiian musical duo, Jon and Randy,
that sang "Hawaiian Eyes" and the beautiful "Hawaiian
Soul", a song dedicated to the late George Helm.
I was fortunate to see Jon and Randy perform a few years ago at
the Hawaii Theatre, and was blessed by their music and warmth...

`O au iho me ka ha`aha`a,
Lara

That is very sad. I was fortunate enough to have caught them performing at
the Ocean Club, earlier this year. It was a fund raiser for Randy's
medical bills. He was very pos-
itive and upbeat even though you could see the pain he was in.

Not only sang, but wrote that song. Huuuuuu, chicken skin EVERY time!

(By the way, Lara, thanks for the clarification. I saw something in the
newsgroup asking if anyone had heard that one of the guys from Hawaiian Style
Band had passed. This must've been the story they were confused about.)

Aloha mai, Judy...

Actually, Randy WAS performing with Hawaiian Style Band on road trips in
the last year or so. But he is most known as one-half of the duo, Jon &
Randy.

Condolences to his family and friends...

In 1978 I had the pleasure of meeting Randy Borden at the University
Branch of the LDS church across from UH. Every Tuesday I use to drive
him up to Kahuku. There was this elderly lady out there who kept 2
cows in her front yard and every Tuesday Randy would buy whatever milk
she had and take it back to town and give it away to the needy. He
would never tell anyone about this but, he was just that kind of
person.
Randy also was always coming up with hair-brained ideas to make money.
He had this old VW van and whenever you looked in the back of it he
had all sorts of gadgets and odd-ball things. I lost track of him in
81 or 82 when he moved to Washington (close to Moses Lake.) He was a
kind and decent person and will be greatly missed.
