"King Kong, who knows the name of
King Kong, who knows the fame of
King Kong..ten times as big as a mannnnn
(something-something...) awesome wonder
(something-something...) you will hear him thunder
But this mighty ape can be a friend to man
so says the legend
The legend offffffff....
King Kong, who knows the name of
King Kong, who knows the fame of
King Kong..ten times as big as a mannnnn
and on and on and on.......
anyways...thats all i remember but I do remember this show being VERY popular
in the 60s...I still remember one kid bragging to his friend that his father
was 'ten times as big as a man"...and the other kid saying "Who your faddah,
King Kong with the rubbah (blank-blonk)??". I barely remember the cartoon
series myself, just sketchy images come to mind, but I do remember watching the
show every chance i got. Anybody else remember it?
>Anybody remember an old cartoon that used to play in Hawaii called King
> Kong?
Yep. "King Kong" was shown on Saturday mornings here.... and more than
likely the rest of the nation. I also remember that when the movie first
aired, the network (ABC?) showed it during prime time... it was in color
but I only saw it in black and white back then.
I think the Cartoon Network is showing the reruns to this and many other
Hana-Barbara and WB cartoons....
Now, does anyone remember "Princess Knight" that used to be shown on
Checkers and Pogo? Also "Astro Boy" on Capt. Honolulu I believe...
Lucky Luck also had a kids afternoon cartoon show on Channel 2... He had
the "new" Three Stooges cartoon and "Roger Ramjet" on that one.

Princess Knight, yeah!!! I think they showed
'Astro Boy' and 'Speed Racer' on the Mainland, because I see pop culture
references to them, but everyone gives me a blank-face when I talk about
Princess Knight (and Prince Fred/Frank, the little sidekick angel [Sparky?] and
the 'brown-haired girl')
Wouldn't mind seeing that show again...
Lin
This was also a favorite cartoon.. I think his name was Newt or Newton tho, not
Toot... I still remember seeing in the stores toy Hercules rings... where's
mines now that I REALLY need it, eh?
Okay, here's sommore old-time cartoons..used to come on EARLY in the morning if
I remember correctly.... SPACE ANGEL.. and CLUTCH CARGO (with his pals Spinner
and Paddlefoot...) i think they both had the same animators because they had
those funky mouths..nothing else moved in the cartoon except for these weird
mouths.. I havent seen those cartoons cartoons lately, were they american?
japanese? hungarian?(i dunno...)
Also, anybody remember the show they used to have called the THUNDERBIRDS that
was all puppets? It was a science-fictionny futuristic show, but it was all done
with these hokey puppets..I say "hokey" now, but back then I used to eat that
stuff up....
Anybody remember more shows? What kinds of cartoons did Capt Honolulu show? I
barely remember his show.... just the opening....must have been on at the same
time something else I wanted to watch came on....
Hah! yes, Hercules... the "horse boy" aka as a Centuar was named Newton...
the smaller boy/animal thing with the flute was called Toot.
This was shown on Captain Honolulu I believe.
> Don't forget "Speed Racer"!
Yep. One of the best cartoons on Checkers and Pogo. I also liked the
"Super Marination" puppet sci-fi shows also shown on C&P....
"Thunderbirds," and "Captain Scarlet". Cool stuff from kid days.
Anyone remember "Rocketship 4" that succeeded (and only lasted a short
time) Captain Honolulu on Channel 4? I can't remember if Sgt. Sacto was in
this one or not...

The Centaur was named "Newt" I think the Speaker of the House is named for him.
As for Astroboy, Speedracer & Kimba. I had them all on the Mainland when I was
a kid.
Who remembers ULTRAMAN?! :)
Meg
I stand corrected! The other little guy was "Toot." LOL! Yep, the Hale
Speaker probably is a Centaur.
>
>Who remembers ULTRAMAN?! :)
Yep, Yep!!

Ho, yah, the buggah always repeating himself. Hercules would call his
name and Newton would say "That's me, That's me!". Ho, da irritating!
Okay now everybody, remember da Hercules theme song? I'll start da
first line: "Hercules... Hero of song and story, Hercules...winner of
ancient glories..."
An' no foaget da lousy ka'toon whea only da lips move: "CLUTCH CARGO"
(with his pals, Spinner and Paddlefoot), and "SPACE ANGEL" (Scot
McCloud). Da worse animation eva!!!
=8=
How 'bout "Ruff and Reddy", da cartoon wit' da talking dog an' cat and
Professor Gizmo, da short Bolohead guy. det would spend five minutes
reviewing da las' episode, den show one minute of new footage, den
repeat da whole ting ova again... five minute review, one minute new
footage to story. HO DA IRRITATING. But we still watch, anyways.
Da bes was "BILLY BOY MOONSTER SHOW" (Capt. Honolulu replacement) when
one kid from da audience wen pu' off one of Billy Boy's fake big ears
and he says "I got SO excited my ears fell off". What can you do wit'
one live
audience?
=8=
I remember those coming on early in the morning everyday back in the
mid, to early 70's on Oahu. I think Green Acres came on later in
place of it.

Yeah, the Thunderbirds were so cool. Thunderbird 2 was awesome. I
recently (within the last 2 years) saw them again on TV. Apparently
they've done some reworking on them and added a more 90's soundtrack
and if I remember correct, interspersed real-life clips of little
kids. But my memory might fail me. Age catching up with me. :-(

Everything seemed to work okay for me. I haven't seen Space Angel or
Clutch Cargo images in twenty-some odd years. And to think I used to
watch this every morning before school.
Any chance you can locate "The Mighty Heroes", i.e. Babyman, Tornado
Man, Cuckoo Man etc.?

Yep, "Thunderbirds" was one of my faves... that and "Captain Scarlet" and
"Fireball XL5" of earlier years... all aired in Hawaii with the first 2
showing on Checkers & Pogo. All were put out by the same studio, ITC out
of England which later developed the sci-fi series "UFO" and "Space 1999".

Didnt Emmy Tomimbang and Pamela Young get their starts on this show? Seems like
I heard this a while ago....maybe Emmy should highlight this little bit of
history on her TV show... would be fun....
>Don't forget "Speed Racer"!
How can I forget Speed Racer? Every kids bike in my neighborhood was called the
Mach 5.. LOL

I thought he was named after the "Grinch". :) I guess the whole family was
named after the story???
Emme Tomimbang was also married to the son of
Governor Burns of Hawai'i.
