Ah, Karen! As another of our friends often says, "There are no
coincidences." SMAHT, your aumakua, no?

For some reason I thought that Keali'i Reichel's concert to promote
"E O Mai" at Borders Waikele was tomorrow. Luckily, I was driving by
on my way home and decided to stop by Borders anyway. As I turned the
corner into the parking lot, I saw a packed house in the music section.
Then it hit me that the concert was tonight! So I hurried in, made my
way through the jam-packed aisles, and managed to catch the last song
and chant. Sure wish I had brought my CD to be signed, but you know
what...to hear the splendor of his beautiful voice in person sure made
my evening and was gift enough! :-)

Aloha mai kakou,

: ...to hear the splendor of his beautiful voice in person sure made

: my evening and was gift enough! :-)

And what a gift! =) Did anyone else catch this superb concert? I spent a
fabulous Friday eve at Borders Waikele, dragging my family along with
me. Thought that Keali`i might play just a few songs, but he played for
over an hour, performing mele from all three albums. People crammed all
available space in the music section--the guy standing next to me (the
first in line) had been waiting since 5 p.m.

But what really touched me most of all, even more than the gorgeous music,
was Keali`i's warmth, graciousness, and his humbleness in re: his fame.
Heard from the Borders manager that Keali`i had refused to pre-sign
anything...'Twas a very long autograph line, but he stayed until the last
person in line had gotten one, chatting with his fans, smiling for endless
strings of photos, patiently personalizing the autographs. Was thrilled
to talk with him, in `olelo Hawai`i, no less. =)

If I remember correctly, Keali`i's playing at Borders Ward Centre this
upcoming week as well--so still get chance fo' see him...

Aloha pumehana,
Lara

Besides Keali`i's music and expression of Hawaiian culture, this is also
what I really admire. I saw Keali`i and co-performers at Tower
Records about a year ago and they showed this same kindness to the admiring
audience. Never been to one of his big concerts, but this small venue is
a real treat.

I saw the Waikele Borders manager at the Kahala Mall concert. He told me
that the crowd was estimated at 1600 people at Borders. There were people
from Vancouver who had planned their vacation to be there for the event.

That is what makes "Super Stars" out of excellent performers, their love
for their fans...
