Anybody remember the Sheriff Ken Show? I remember going to the studio to
celebrate my birthday with my friends and then staying for the Captin
Honolulu Show. Don't remember what year it was...but we all got on TV...

I absolutely have no recollection of Captain Honolulu or Sheriff Ken. (Can
I actually be *too young* to remember?!! Yes! Yes!)

Since we're all reminiscing here, did anyone know Kalani or know what he's
up to nowadays? He's the one who wanted all us kids to come and be his
friend at Ponderosa Pines. And, yes, I did want to be his friend...or
maybe I just wanted to ride that train in the commercial.

Sheriff Ken's (Ken Alford) shows, he had 3 of them, ran for 12 years
starting in 1953. He took over the Sheriff Tookie show after Tookie
(Tookie Evans) left. His first show was on KGMB Channel 9. He then
switched to Channel 2. His last show was an astronaut type show. It
only lasted a short time; the kids kept calling him "Sheriff Ken."

Ken Alford is still alive and is a valuable resource of information
about the early days of Hawaiian television; which for some strange
reason, no ones seems to care much about. He resides in Honolulu.

"Captain Honolulu", who never appeared on the show, was hosted by Sgt.
Sacto (Bob Smith) on Channel 4 (KHVH) in the early 60s. The show
featured Popeye cartoons. Sgt. Sacto was famous for his upside down
hand goggles.

There were actually 3 "Checkers" of "Checkers and Pogo" fame. The
second Mr. Checkers was none other than Star Bulletin columnist Dave
Donelly.

Interesting point here. I've heard people talk about Sgt. Sacto and
never understood that. We always called the guy on the show (with hand
goggles and all) Capt. Honolulu.
