Racine who are ignorant, vile and rotten to the core.

If you were anybody in Vodou with even a limtited amount of sense you
would have never written such outrage.

Anyone who has been Predisent of the High Court in any country is
worthy of respect.

Me Emile Jonassaint was a man , 79 years old, well known by most
Vodouist for being, outside of his professional life, an elder of Lavil
O Kan. The place where the pwen had been made for the protection of all
the children of the country before the Independance. Lavil O Kan is our
Haitian Ile Ife.

Agaou is the major Lwa served there. You do not have any idea about
what Agaou or any other Lwa, for that matter, represents and you
slander a deceased respected Haitian, who was so well known for being
Agaou child that he was called Agaou himself.

Your mouth is foul maybe because of a certain desire to exert a certain
freedom of speech guaranteed by your constitution. We just passed an
interesting election in your country where we saw two supreme courts in
action. Why arent you interested in your judges?

You take great pride of your country invading Haiti, the smallest
independant nation of this western hemisphere. For money, you took an
active part in the killing of a Haitian man, you had others arrested
and beaten, and you are proud of it.

YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE TO MOCK AGAOU AND Me Emile Jonassaint. You are
disgusting.

<"President" Jonassaint - (was: Ogoun Question)

More on politcal figures - during the military regime of
1991 - 1994, the military installed as a puppet president
a certain Emile Jonassaint, former member of Haiti's
equivalent of the Supreme Court.

This old coot, when it became clear that the REAL
President of Haiti, democratically elected President
Aristide, was about to be restored to power by the
United Nations Multi-National Forces, made a total
fool of himself by invoking the lwa Agarou to his
defense. Agarou is a sky lwa, identified with thunder -
and lo and behold, the first part of the UN intervention
came with a thunderous sound from the airplanes
flying overhead! LOL!! I really believe that if Jonassaint
had invoked Agwe the interventionary forces would
have first arrived by sea, and if he had invoked Dantor
the first units ashore would have been covert operations
teams composed of black women! :-)

In any case, Jonassaint until his death was mocked with
the nickname "Agarou".>

You dont even know that there exists no Lwa Dan Petwo, you dont have
any idea of who were the Dan Petros in our history and our religion.

There are things we learn in Vodou that you will never find in any
book. We are proud of our oral tradition and I am proud that some one
like you is not getting it.

Keep finding a son to Dan Petro !!! make us laugh and what about his
wife, aunt, uncle ??? Ti Jan Petwo doesnt even belong to the Dan Petwo
rite.

You are a lost cause, a lost soul, you will never learn.

Keep making fun of Haitians. Haitians are having a lot of fun with you.
Keep making a fool of yourself, we will see who will have the last
laugh.

Meanwhile, have a great time exerting your right of speech. I will not
be here for a few weeks to contradict you. By now most people have a
pretty good idea of you are. Keep amusing the gallery.

Again, these are not orthodox Vodou lwa, with the exception
of Don Petro. This lwa is also ambiguous in origin - some
historians of the day claim that there was a "Don Pedro", who was
a "Spanish Negro" (presumably an African man imported by the Spanish,
but who knows?), other ethnographers feel
that this is a Petro aspect of Dambala, and cite Don Petro's
identification with snakes. His "son", Ti-Jean Petro, is also
identified with snakes, is said to have one leg or no legs,
climbs trees without using his hands just like a snake, and
so on. Unlike the pristine Dambala, though, Ti-Jean Petro
loves to cuss and swear.

In the political life of Haiti, actually, there is a certain Dejean
Belizaire who was active during the military regime, earning
himself the sobriquet of "Ti-Jean Betiseur", a "betiseur" being a
person who says a lot of "betise", or cuss words.

Not when he serves as a front man for a regime which
came to power by murder, remained in power by murder...
the Cedras regime which ousted democratically elected
President Aristide murdered at least 5000 Haitians in
three years, not to mention the tens of thousands tortured,
raped, and kidnapped.

You are the one doing all the swearing.

The United States did not invade Haiti in 1994, the
*United Nations * Multi-National Forces *intervened in Haiti*
AT THE INVITATION of Haiti's elected government.
Your Macoute affiliations are showing.

By the way, President Aristide was just re-elected! :-)

Emile Jonassaint was the laughingstock of Haiti!
And YOU are allergic to the truth.

Here's an interesting quote from Moreau Saint-Mery c.1772-1780. This
is part of a longer passage which I posted to soc.culture.haiti in late
September.

* * * * *
Who will believe that Voodoo gives place to something further,
which also goes by the name of dance? In 1768 a negro of
Petit-Goave, of Spanish origin, abusing the crdulity of the
negroes by superstitious practices, gave them an idea of a
dance, analogous to that of the Voodoo, but where the movements
are more hurried. To make it even more effective the Negroes
place in the rum, which they drink while dancing, well-crushed
gunpowder. One as seen this dance called Dance to Don Pedro,
induce death on the Negroes; and the spectators themselves,
electrified by the spectacle of this convulsive exercise, share
the drunkenness of the actors, and hasten by their chant, and a
quickened measure a crisis which is in some way common to them.
It has been necessary to forbid dancing Don Pedro under grave
penalty, but sometimes ineffectually.

Is Ti-Jean Petwo also known as Ti-Jean Zombi, or are these two
different entities? I've seen reference to Ti-Jean Zombi in a book
entitled "Haiti, History & Gods;" the author of that book claimed that
Ti-Jean Zombi was originally a mulatto "of fearsome countenance" who
achieved some measure of fame for his brutality against the French.

Hello again Kevin,

All the "Jan" Lwa are who you are speaking of. Jan Petwo, Jan Danto`,
Jan Rasine, Jan Laurant, Jan Zonbi & so forth. They are all different
Lwa...as if Ogou feray, Badagri, etc. For example, Jan Danto`, & Jan
rasine are frequent in my house...not so much jan Petwo or Jan Laurant.
All different Lwa.

For example, Jan Danto` is the son/ husband of Ezili Danto`....as in
the song "Ezili fanm Ti-Jan, Metwes Kay-la"

Many people call these Jan Lwa "Ti", as in Ti-Jan, but we dont say this
to His face usually. The use of "Ti" indicates either a liar, a thief,
or a thug...or any combo thereof. Jan will tell you that in fact he IS
all of these, but thats His business, not ours. Instead, we say Moushe
Danto`, Moushe Rasine, Moushe Zonbi, & so on.

History & Gods;" the author of that book claimed that Ti-Jean Zombi was

Dont believe everything you read Kevin.....but again think "avatar".

Hope you are well,

Ti-Jan Petro is *one of the husbands* of Erzulie Dantor, the
other is Simbi Makaya.

No, no - "Ti" in Creole is short for "Petit", and it just means
"Little" in this context, like "Little Abner". A lot of Haitian
men have "Ti-" before their names, like Ti-Djo, Ti-Blan, Ti-Michel,
Ti-Jean, Ti-Delpa... and also women, as in Ti-Kal Fanm, Ti-Jeanne,
even the famous feminist writer, Ti-Grace Atkinson!

In fact children, as a general category are called ti-moun,
"little people", and boys in general are referred to as
"Ti-Roro" while girls are referred to as "Ti-Choune".

Liar is "mentè" from the French "menteur", thief is "volè"
from the French "voleur", thug is "vwayou" from the
French "voyou" and so on.

There is just no substitute for experience. :-)

Let me also note that it is not correct to substitute
a "w" for "r" in each and every Creole word. "Metres"
is not correctly given as "Metwes", siwwy wabbit! :-)

Oh, BTW - I've seen this come up on some other
threads. There is indeed a correct spelling of Creole
words - that is why you can buy Creole-language
spellchecker software. For really good written Creole,
check the Creole section of Haiti Progres. It's
published in NYC actually, and available in the Haitian
community there, in Boston, and in Miami.
