07/07/1993 ERZİNCAN / Death of 30 civilians in an attack on Kemaliye -
Başbağlar village

7 JULY 1993, WEDNESDAY

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
------

The Turkish press reported that the village of Başbağlar in Erzincan was raided
in the evening hours of 5 July 1993 by a large group of terrorists who murdered
30 civilians. 3 villagers were seriously wounded. The terrorists also set some
50 village houses on fire.

The Head of the Village Administration Ali Akarpınar who survived the massacre
with three bullet wounds told the reporters, "In the evening hours, a crowded
group of terrorists including men and women came to our village. They gathered
all the men at the entrance of the village and the women in another area. The
terrorists delivered a propaganda speech and told us that they would certainly
not harm anybody. We could not guess what was going to happen, because it was
the first time that terrorists were in our village. All the people they
gathered were unarmed and were not in a position to do anything against them.
Then they suddenly lined up all of us like sheep about to be slaughtered and
opened automatic gunfire on us. Simultaneously, they set the village houses on
fire. Most of the villagers died instantly with the first wave of fire. After
the execution, the terrorists checked the bodies one by one to make sure that
nobody was left alive, shooting those who were still alive. Fortunately, I
survived as the terrorists thought that I was dead."

Başbağlar is the smallest village of Erzincan. Because the terrorists destroyed
the single telephone of the village, communication between the village and the
outside world was completely cut off after the attack. The Governor of
Erzincan, Mr. Recep Yazıcıoğlu, stated that they had heard about the attack
only when one of the villagers arrived in the province of Kemaliye after a
7-hour walk and informed the authorities of the massacre.

President Süleyman Demirel defined this massacre as "complete barbarity" and
stated, "if there is still anyone either at home or abroad who continues to
remain indifferent to the fact that the Turkish State and Nation are facing
such cruelty and bloodthirst, they should be regarded as parties to this
savagery."

The names of those who were murdered in this massacre are as follows:

20/07/1993 VAN / Killing of 25 nomads in an attack on the plateau of Bahçesaray
- Sündüz

20 JULY 1993

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
------

"PKK barbarity against defenceless nomads: PKK riddled 14 children and 9 women
with bullets in the most abhorrent massacre of its history" was the headline of
one of Turkey's major newspapers.

7 PKK terrorists came to the Sündüz plateau on the slopes of the Mount Agiruf
near Bahçesaray, Van, around 01:00 on 18 July 1993. Saying "make us tea, we
will talk to you," the terrorists gathered 26 nomads, all of them women and
children of Kurdish origin, in a tent.

Taking advantage of the absence of the men, who were out to graze their sheep
and cattle, the PKK terrorists made PKK propaganda to the nomads and had a
wireless talk with some other PKK militants. Upon the orders received through
the wireless, the terrorists started shooting at the women and children in the
tent with Kalashnikov rifles from close distance, killing 25 people. The
terrorists then burned down the tent.

One nomad, named Ahmet Sevgili, survived the massacre with wounds, while 3
others managed to hide from the terrorists.

Hicret Güzel, a 35-year-old woman who survived the massacre, still unable to
contain her shock, said that "it was late at night. 7 armed people came to the
plateau. "Gather in the tent, we'll talk to you," they said and they wanted us
to make them tea. At that moment one of them had a wireless talk. They opened
fire on us right after that talk. I threw myself behind the stone bank around
the tent. I passed out after they had left."

It has been found out that the the terrorists executed the attack under the
command of Şemdin Sakık, known as PKK's "second man." The head of the PKK
group, however, was not determined.

President Demirel condemned the massacre with these words: "The responsibility
of those who sympathize with or provide support to this brutal terror
organization inside or outside (Turkey) is grave. This murder has profoundly
distressed our nation."

The names and ages of the nomads killed by the PKK terrorists are as follows:

With the end of the summer holiday and the beginning of the academic year, the
PKK once again targeted teachers who have often become victims of the PKK's

the teachers before shooting at and throwing grenades on them.

The names of the 4 teachers killed in the attack are:

of 21 October 1993, say Turkish press reports.

The PKK terrorists entered the village around 21:30 from three different
directions, according to the State of Emergency Area Governor. The terrorists
called on the village guards to surrender and attacked the village with rockets
and long-range weapons when they got a negative response from the guards.

The terrorists ordered the villagers to gather inside the village's primary
school and shot 5 children who refused to submit to them. Another victim was
45-year old Hasibe Erdem who got her throat slashed by the terrorists.

The terrorists then opened fire on the villagers who had gathered inside the
school, killing 16 and wounding 8.

Those who lost their lives during the assault are as follows:

Nevrettin Erdem (10)

Anıl Erdem (60)

Merdiye Erdem (25)

place among the terrorists during the assault. The recording of the
conversation between a terrorist code-named "Habur" and others have shocked
millions in Turkey. Excerpts from the above-mentioned conversation are
presented below :

Habur (to another terrorist codenamed "Zağros"): "Keep rocketing. Keep bombing
that place. Enter the houses with "Berger" and "Gabar" and burn them down. Kill
them all. Don't show mercy to anybody...."

Zağros: "OK. I got it."

Habur (to "Lolan"): "Lolan, have you entered those houses? Have you killed
those people?"

Lolan: ....

Habur: "Well done .... Don't leave the village until you have killed all of
them..."

...

Habur: "Comrade, why can't you kill? Stop showing mercy."

Habur: "Comrade, Lolan is not able to kill. He pities them. You finish the
job."

Habur: "Check all the houses in turn and kill them all .... women and children.
Kill the children in particular .... Comrades, hurry up. The armoured vehicles
are coming."

Zağros: "...."

Habur: "Comrades, how many have you killed so far?"

Lolan: "...."

Habur: "Fifteen? That's not enough. (Kill) Some more. See that house where the
lights are on? Enter that house. Don't leave anybody (alive)."

***

The Minister of Interior, Mehmet Gazioğlu, pointed out after the attack that
the village guards were away when the PKK terrorists assaulted the village. He
noted that 4 houses had been hit with PKK rockets and remarked that the
terrorists could only "attack defenceless and innocent citizens and avoided
encountering the security forces."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
------

It was reported in the Turkish press that the blast from a high explosive bomb
placed by PKK's "Metropol Revenge Team" inside a waste-basket at Tuzla Train

students were wounded during the bloody incident.

The students of Tuzla Military Infantry School were waiting at the Tuzla Train
Station early in the morning for the train which would take them to their
families or friends with whom they would spend the weekend when the bomb
exploded.

The explosion took place at 09:07 with a deafening sound, turning the area into
a bloodbath with mutilated victims, maimed arms and legs of the young students.
The dismembered pieces of flesh from the young victims spread all over the
walls and floors of the station.

thought two trains had collided with each other. Then I noticed the screaming
people outside. I jumped out of the train and tried to help the people. The
area was full of blood and was surrounded with mutilated bodies. I collected
pieces of fingers, wrapped them into a newspaper and delivered it to a
hospital."

Mr. Hayri Kozakçıoğlu, Governer of Istanbul, told the reporters in a press
statement, "Placing bombs in crowded areas is a very easy and effortless way.
This bloody act during the Ramadan has unmasked the objective of the PKK
terrorist organization."

24/04/1996 KAHRAMANMARAS/ Murder of 3 teachers in the Karatat hamlet of Ekinözü
village

24 APRIL 1996, WEDNESDAY

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
------

It was reported in the Turkish press that 3 primary school teachers were shot
to death by PKK militants in the Karataş hamlet of Ekinözü village in
Kahramanmaraş.

According to the information given by Mr. Saim Cotur, the Governor of
Kahramanmaraş, the terrorists first took Nurettin Arslan (22), teaching at the
Karataş Primary School of Altınyaprak village, with them and went to the Kale
Primary School in the hamlet of Çiftlik. There the terrorists shot Nurettin
Arslan, the Sarıgöl hamlet teacher Aydın Yılmaz (25) and the Davutlar hamlet
teacher Hacı Ömer Serin (23) with long-range weapons. It was believed that the
shootings took place around midnight and that the gunshots may not have been
heard because of the distance of the teachers' residences to the settlements of
the hamlet.

The dead bodies of the three teachers were found by the students who came to
the school the next day in the morning to celebrate the anniversary of 23 April
1920, the date of the founding of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, which
for years has been celebrated as the "children's day" in Turkey. Two of the
bodies were found in front of the teachers' residence and one was inside the
building.

After receiving the detailed news of the killings from the relevant authorities
in the district, Mr. Saim Cotur stated the following:

"The hamlets of Karataş, Sarıgöl and Davutlar are close to each other. All of
the three teachers were staying at the residence of the Karataş hamlet primary
school. The teachers were taken from the residence to the office of the
school's administrator, their hands were tied and they were executed. The way
the murders have been committed reveals that it was the work of the PKK.

It was learned that the three young primary school teachers Nurettin Arslan,
Hacı Ömer Serin and Aydın Yılmaz were from Kahramanmaraş, İçel, and Edirne,
respectively.

Security forces started operations to capture the terrorists. President
Demirel, Prime Minister Yılmaz, Minister of State Ülkü Güney and the Chairman
of the Grand National Assembly Mustafa Kalemli strongly condemned the terror
act.

broadcast in Kurdish.

The facilities also housed Mehmet Ali Altındağ's private TV station, called
"Söz TV." During the PKK assault, the announcer of the TV interrupted a live
